Needless to say, Gordon didn't want anyone to call the police either. When he stormed over to the party hall, he immediately plastered on a big, fat smile. "What's going on? Why is everyone gathered around here?"
A lot of people in the crowd sneered internally when they saw his blank look. A huge kerfuffle had just gone down. As the owner of this hotel and the party host, there was no way he didn't know what happened.
Gordon was just playing dumb and didn't make hay until the sun shone. Now that the situation was spinning out of control, he had no choice but to act.
Hayley chuckled and responded sarcastically, "My lost ring has been found, but it was in Ms. Shaw's purse."
"Really?" He looked surprised. Then, he glanced at Theo and asked with a troubled expression, "Mr. Gray, how do you want to deal with this?"
"The ring might've been found in my purse, but I didn't steal it. In order to prove my innocence, I support Ms. Jenkins in her decision to call the police." Sierra spoke firmly and wore a stern expression.
Theo held her hand and added solemnly, "Sierra is a pianist, and she needs to practice a lot most of the time. That's why she never wears rings. She simply has no motive to steal something she would never use."
Realization struck everyone. They finally understood why Sierra's fingers were bare.
"I see. So, that's what happened." Gordon maintained the smile and continued in a somewhat helpless tone, "I organized tonight's party to celebrate Melody's return to the country. It's meant to be a festive occasion. It's not a good look if we call the police over something like this.
"Could you do me a favor and call it a day? In any case, you found your ring. There was no harm done."
Hayley rubbed the ring on her finger and sneered. "So, this is how you treat your guests, Mr. Jones. Since you put it that way, I'll let this matter slide, but something came up. So, I'll be taking my leave now."
She'd gain nothing if she had a fallout with the Jones family over a ring. Moreover, she had no intention to involve the police in the first place.
If she did, the party guests who were found to be suspicious would be forced to cooperate with the investigation. She would cross a lot more people then.
Instead of responding to him, Theo looked at Sierra. Gordon was surprised to see Theo consulting her opinion over something so trivial.
Theo really needed to grow a pair.
He flashed a smile at her, saying, "Mrs. Gray, it doesn't matter if you took the ring. The fact remained that it was found in your purse. You won't be able to explain yourself if we involve the police. Perhaps we should just chalk it up to a hapless accident and call it a day."
This was the first time Sierra had seen Gordon, and she found that the same blood ran in Melody and Gordon's veins. The father and daughter were both absolutely shameless. It was baffling how he was still trying to pin the blame on Sierra at this point.
"That's exactly why I want to call the police. Otherwise, I won't be able to explain myself in the future," Sierra responded calmly.
He was a little irritated when he saw that she wouldn't budge, no matter what. Looking at Theo, he grinned, mentioning, "Mr. Gray, your wife is truly a tough lady. Why don't you have a word with her?"
