At Mrs. Smith’s words, a trace of hesitation flashed across Rachel’s eyes. 

Old Mr. Smith’s birthday had been held grandly in the past three years, but it had nothing to do with Rachel. 

The Smith family always kept her in the family because they were worried that Rachel’s background would be ridiculed. 

Would Mrs. Smith be so kind as to ask her to stay for dinner? 

Narrowing her eyes, Rachel gave Mrs. Smith a deep and long look and said, “Mrs. Smith, I appreciate your kindness, but I gotta go 

now.” 

Facing her indifferent attitude, Mrs. Smith had a hint of displeasure emerging in her eyes. “I know you hate me in your heart. I want to make up to you for the past. Are you gonna turn me down?” 

“Just because you want to make up to me doesn’t mean I’ll let it go and forgive you,” Rachel said in a cold voice and walked away. 

Rachel had never owed the Smith family a thing. Instead, the Smith family owed her too much. 

Perhaps it was because of what Rachel had been through in her childhood that she had trouble accepting others‘ kindness, so she would remember their kindness and charity. 

During the Smith family’s most difficult time, Rachel stepped forward bravely. However, in the end, not only did the Smith family not show any appreciation, but they even devalued her three years of hard work. They treated her sincerity toward Louis as one–sided. 

From the moment Rachel broke up with Louis, she and the Smith family were like fire and water. It was impossible for her to be with Louis again. 

If Old Mr. Smith had not personally made the call, she would

Without any hesitation, Rachel walked toward Old Mr. Smith’s courtyard room. 

As Old Mr. Smith got old, he grew weary of the lively atmosphere. Instead, he liked to stay in a secluded garden, lie on a rattan chair, listen to music, and drink coffee. 

As expected, when Rachel arrived at the small garden, she saw Old Mr. Smith sitting on a rattan chair from afar. He was holding a birdcage in his hand and playing with the parrot in it. 

This parrot was specially found by Rachel back then, but it had been raised by Old Mr. Smith all these years. 

Looking at the parrot’s smooth fur, she knew that it had been carefully raised. 

“Miss Grey, you’re finally here. Old Mr. Smith has been talking about you all morning.” When the nanny saw Rachel, her face was filled with joy. 

Old Mr. Smith hurriedly put down the birdcage in his hand and sat up from the rattan chair. With a smile, he waved at Rachel. “You’re. finally here. You’ve made me wait.” 

As he spoke, he clenched his fists and coughed a few times. 

“Are you feeling unwell?” 

“It’s an old problem.” 

Old Mr. Smith looked at Rachel’s worried expression and hurriedly explained, “I know my body. It’s not a big problem. It won’t kill me.” 

“Pfft, pfft, pfft!” Rachel turned her head and spat a few times. She darted Old Mr. Smith an angry look and said, “Today is your birthday. It’s so unlucky to mention that.” 

Old Mr. Smith was amused by her actions and laughed heartily. Then, he held her hand and patted it gently. The smile on his face faded a little as he said, “I know about you and Louis, I don’t ask
