"Listen, kid," I said trying to be as gentle as possible. The situation at hand was not her fault, therefore, I shouldn't be treating her this way. "We are not family and will never be family. YOUR mom," I emphasized. "Left me." I pointed to myself. "For another man, that happens to be your father. She missed out on a relationship with me when she left and never once tried to contact me till now. "

"But-." I cut her off.

"No. I have work to do. You can see your way out." I shooed her.

After everybody was gone I couldn't help but let my tears fall. Since my father had died my life had turned into a bad reality TV show. Having my dad there always comforted me and since he was gone I was like a lost soul. Ryan had called me back shortly after Megan left. I choose not to answer, I couldn't add more stress to my plate at this time.

"Dad, I miss you," I said to the picture that hung above my desk. It was a picture of him, Melissa, Jack and me. It was taken a couple years ago during our twenty year anniversary, the picture had been published in the city newspaper. He was so happy that this place was still open and thriving, he couldn't wait to pass it on to me and then to my children.

Seeing this picture changed my mind. I couldn't let Ryan or his money get near this place. He would change everything, my dad would be pissed if I let that happen.

"I can't do this. I won't do this." I told myself.

The next morning as soon as I woke up and had my first cup of coffee I called Ryan to decline his offer. "Hello." He sounded as if he had just woken up.

"Hello Ryan, this is-."

"Alex, yes I know." He answered for me. "I called you back yesterday, you didn't answer."

"Sorry about that, something had come up," I told him.

"Is everything okay?"

Why was he so concerned?

"Everything is fine. I was calling to tell you I would take this job, but as of today, I've changed my mind. Thank you for this opportunity but I will not be taking this job or your money."

"What?"

"I'm sorry but I cannot let you ruin my father's restaurant and legacy."

"That's not what I'm doing!" He said urgently.

"I have to go. Goodbye, Ryan."

"You are dismissed to later tonight." I told the wolves that I had stationed outside her house.

"Yes Alpha." They responded.

I pulled up at her house to see there was a white car already parked in her drive way. It was Alex's aunt Liz. On the way here the wolves had mindlinked me to tell me she had arrived just a few mintues ago.

The door had opened right before I got a chance to knock. "Ryan, how are you?" It looked as though she was leaving.

"Good, and yourself."

"Same." She open the door wider. "Come in."

"Thank you." I walked in and she shut the door behind me.

"She's upstairs still getting ready." I nodded and she gestured for me to go to the living room.

"So is this a date you are taking my niece on?" I coughed at how forward she was being.
