She was referring to the guy in the suit that had shown up to tell me that I had 30 days to pay my father's debt off, and it was a lot more than I thought it was. Not only did he own debt to the restaurant but also on the house. It would cost over $500,000 each to be able to keep both. My college fund had been running out. I had been using it to cover the restaurant expensive the only money I had left was the life insurance check.

I sighed. "I going to have to use the life insurance check to pay to keep the restaurant."

Using the life insurance check was something I never wanted to do. It hurt my heart to have to use something that I had gotten because my father died.

"What about the house?"

"I can't afford to keep both," I said sadly.

Choosing between the house and the restaurant was a hard choice. I've lived my whole life in that house but I know in my heart my father would rather have the restaurant over the house, especially considering he had built this place from the ground up and had spent his whole life saving trying to make this place a success. It had always been his dream.

"Ryan is rich, right?" I nodded but not understanding why she was bringing him up. "Maybe he'll loan-."

"No. Absolute not, I already have enough debt, I can't even afford to go to school now."

I hated having to drop out before I even started but there were sacrifices that need to be made. There was supplies to be brought and employees to be paid, there was no way I could still attend school.

"No, no Alex there have to be away. What about scholarships?"

I shook my head. "Melissa, school starts in a month. I pretty sure scholarships are out of the question. Plus this will give me more time to focus on the restaurant."

She paused before a smile took over her face. "We can do a fundraiser, the people in the community love this place they would hate for it to fall."

I was happy she wanted to help but it was too late. My father had left me in a hole that not even the three of us could pull me out of.

I smiled. "There's no way I can raise that amount of money with this short of a notice."

"But-." I cut her off.

"No, not another word. I appreciate the thought but, what done is done. Get back to work." With not another word she left my office.

When I had gotten home that night I had decided I would sleep in my father's room. I only had thirty more days before I would have to give it up, and was determined to enjoy it until it was all over.

ALPHA RYAN

When Alex had told me that she was declining the job it had completely surprised me. I just knew she was going to take the job when she came in that day with her aunt, even Willie was sure. I had called her to see why, but she either didn't response to my text or ignored my calls.

I could felt the butterflies erupt in my stomach. I hoped everything was okay with Alex. A few seconds later, she and Ivy walked back into my office. "I'll let you two talk." Ivy exited my office shutting the door behind her.

I stood up from my office chair. "Is everything okay?"

"No, it's not."

"Have a seat." I gesture to the chair that sat in front of my desk. "What's going on?" I sat back down.

She took a deep breath. "Alex is in trouble."

"What type of trouble?" I frowned.

"We thought she was going to take this job, and when she didn't it surprised us."

"Who's us?"

"My father, Liz and I." I gestured for her to continue. "She doesn't know I'm here, no one does."
