The next day when I went to the restaurant late in the afternoon we were almost empty only having about five tables filled with people. For the past few days, we would even have a super slow day or super-fast days, never in the middle.
"How are things going Melissa?" I asked her as she wiped down some tables.
"Okay, we were kind of busy this morning." She shrugged.
"Good." I nodded and went to put my things in my office. When I came back to the front there was a girl standing at the door and Melissa was busy serving other customers, "Can I help you?"
She was about Melissa age, with long brunette hair. She wore a dark blue polka dot sundress with strappy sandals. Her hair was flat iron and she had on blue eye shadow with a thin layer of liquid eyeliner on, along with mascara that made her eyelashes longer.
"Yes. Are you guys hiring?" She smiled brightly.
"No ma'am we're not," I told her sadly.
"Internship?" She asked.
"No." I shook my head.
Her eyebrows scrunched together. "Volunteer work?"
"No." I shook my head with a smile.
"What if you paid me less than everybody else?"
I folded my arms. "Mind telling me why you're so eager to work here?"
"I was thinking about taking up a career in the restaurant business but I have no experience. Plus my family think I need a job badly. I'm a bit of an obsessive shopper." She told me making me laugh.
"I see. How about you come back in tomorrow and I'll see what I can do." I smiled.
"Okay. I'm Lily by the way." She held out her hand.
"Alex."
The rest of the day went by pretty slow with little to no customers. We ended up having to close because been open we were losing a lot more money than we were making. I grabbed the stuff in my mailbox and headed inside my house.
When I got inside I notice that it was yet another letter from the bank.
Dear Alex Anderson,
This letter is to inform you that your bill of $520,710.12 has been completely paid off and you no longer owe a debt to the Bank of America. If you have any questions feel free to call me at my office hours.

I didn't get to dwell on that much longer because at the moment there was a knock at my door. In walked Melissa, "Lily is here to see you."
"Lily come on in." She smiled and walked into my office and took the seat that was in front of my desk. Behind Lily stood Melissa at the entrance of my office. She was glaring directly at the back of Lily's head. I frowned. "Is there something you want to say, Melissa?"
"No." She shook her head.
"Well, do you mind giving us some privacy?"
"Oh....sure." She closed the door behind her.
"So....." She trailed off and I couldn't help but laugh at her. "Is there a job available for me?" Lily smiled brightly.
"Luckily for you, a position did just open up," I smiled. "If you prove yourself, then you have the job."
"Yes!" She cheered. "You won't regret this." She promised.
It had been years since we had hired someone new year. My father was always skeptical about hiring new people because whenever he did it proved to be a bad idea. There was always a family vibe in the restaurant and when new people were hired it always disrupted that, and eventually they would either quit or my father would fire them.
"I sure hope so."
I not sure why Melissa acted like that but Lily seemed like a nice girl, and since now I could afford to hire someone I could focus more on the business side. Once I explained to Lily, her position and the things she would be doing I dismissed her and told her to come back tomorrow when she would be trained by either myself or Melissa.
