I bit my lips as my eyes darted around the place.
Robert noticed and raised his eyebrow.
"Look, I have to tell you something."
He nodded for me to go on.
"Your fox, she's alive."
His eyes widened and they filled with hope.
"Really? Where is she? How?"
I stood up and said, "Wait here."
I walked behind a tree and stripped. I closed my eyes as I shifted into Snow. I hesitated and walked out.
Robert's eyes widened with disbelief. "Sky?"
I shrunk to my smaller size.
"Oh my god oh my god. I'm hallucinating."
I rolled my eyes at him and nuzzled his hand.
He gasped, happy tears streaming down his face. He laughed as I licked his hands. I jumped on him, and he engulfed me in a bear hug.
"Why didn't you tell me? How are you alive? I thought you died!"
I've been wanting to tell you but I wanted you to recover first. Remember you let me out to go outside?
His eyes widened, "I thought you have to be in a pack to mind link. And yea I remember."
Well, usually yea but I can mind link with any living thing. So, while I was running, I smelled smoke. I ran back as fast as possible to see the house burning down. I thought you were dead.
My voice wobbled in the end.
Where's your mother? Did she make it?
He shook his head as a tear rolled down his cheek and whispered a, "No."
I nuzzled closer to him and licked his chin.
I'm sorry.
He smiled and hugged me, "It wasn't your fault."
How did the house caught on fire?
"I don't know. I was in my room and my mom was watching TV. I hear her scream so I ran downstairs and saw her laying on the floor, her leg was bleeding. She yelled at me to run. There was this black hooded figure and the next thing I know the house was on fire."
I whimpered and laid my head on Robert's chest.
We sat there in silence for a while.
"Can you go back to your bigger form?" He asked, breaking the silence.
I nodded and felt the tingling through my fur as my form grew.
I plopped down on Robert making him grunt.
"I always knew you were fat," he wheezed out.
I growled playfully at him.
Austin walked out of the pack house. When he saw us, he smiled and came over.
"Hey man what's up?" Austin said.
"Hey dude."
