The activity at the kindergarten kicked off. 

Everyone sat down at the tables that were set up. Leah looked at Antonio, who was sitting in the row ahead, and asked me with frustration, “Mom, why isn’t Dad sitting with us?”

Leah’s eyes welled up with tears as she saw her blocks fall. In a fit of pique, she grabbed a big black and threw it at Jacob. 

Antonio quickly stopped her and said, “Leah, how could you do that! Apologize to Jacob.” 

Leah stubbornly replied, “Why should I? He knocked over my blocks!”

Leah looked at Antonio, pulling at his shirt. “Dad, say something!”

Antonio glared at me, picked up Jacob, and snapped, “What’s there to explain? I’m Jacob’s dad today!” 

Then he patted Jacob’s head. 

The other parents cast scornful glances at us, whispering among themselves.

“We’ve seen Antonio and Sophia bringing their son to kindergarten.”

While Leah and I were being condemned, Antonio just turned a blind eye, trying to comfort Jacob. 

Sophia suppressed a laugh as she glanced at me. 

I picked up the crying Leah, gently patting her back. “It’s alright. Don’t listen to their nonsense.”
