He stood staring at Calvin, and he was more than unhappy about the sight that was before him, Marilyn Riddley; his own wife’s favourite author was laying at the bottom of the emergency exit stairwell. His eyes. moved over the woman who could be, he now realized; actually could be Marrin, Calvin’s ex–wife

He was looking at the multitude of scars on both of her exposed legs, and after asking Calvin what the hell had happened. And he could, now that he was really looking at her, see there was also a scar on her left temple, though it was hidden mostly by her make–up. He was willing to bet she had more scars than what he

was seeing now, as well.

Calvin had lost it completely after seeing Marilyn’s birth certificate and tried to. No, he had, managed to pull that woman’s shirt up and Wil knew it was going to have been against her will, and exposed the left side of her body to him. Calvin, he knew, had been checking for Marrin’s birthmark and had now seen that it wasn’t there, but had also seen more scars on her side.

Marilyn Riddley was a mass of scar tissue and Wil didn’t like it. His gut was twisting inside of him, and for more than just one reason. Though Calvin now thought he was completely wrong, and he had finally appeared to have come to his senses about the woman, and was now full of guilt about what had just happened. He’d voiced himself to Wil “She’s not Marrin.”

Which not only meant that he had stalked and attacked an innocent woman, who’d never once approached him with ill intent, but she’d in no way even recognised him, and she had told the truth of the matter about not knowing who he was. Calvin’s utter insistence that he was right, and couldn’t possibly be wrong, had led to Marilyn coming to actual harm, and at the man’s own hands.

Calvin’s obsession had gotten the better of him, and if Marilyn never came around or died from this very accident. Wil was not going to be able to get him out of it. Calvin would also have just orphaned two children, because she herself was an orphan and he could see there was no wedding ring on her hand. He’d also read Marilyn was a single mother of two, it was in her bio, something he was certain Calvin himself would have

read by now.

He walked Calvin away up the stairs and out into the hallway. This is bad Calvin, if she dies, you’re going to jail and from all the press leading up to this, Downgrading it to grievous bodily harm causing death, because

I know you’re it was an accident.” Wil shook his head. “No one is going to believe that; The press out th here for mediation with Marilyn and Lisa. Her lawyer is going to state it’s manslaughter. If you’re lucky, that is. He could go for murder because you have a clear motive.”

“There is no motive, what are you talking about?” Calvin frowned at him.

“All the other women you’ve imprisoned, the way you stalked, harassed and harmed Marilyn on the street in public just yesterday, now this, just the very next day. This is really bad Calvin, you’d better start praying she wakes up.

“I honestly didn’t mean to harm her Wil. I just wanted proof it was Marrin.” He sighed.

“Did you get that?” Wil shot at him a full angry edge to his voice, because he already knew the truth.

“No.” Calvin scrubbed a hand over his face.

“And that right there is the very problem. You hate women that look like Marrin, so it could be seen that you saw it wasn’t her and got angry, that she was an impostor, and so you shoved her down the stairs because of that very thing. That, I believe, is how her lawyer in going to play this. Because that is how I would play it,” he muttered, because he knew he would.

“But that’s not what happened” Calvin repented himself.

“Can you prove that beyond a doubt? A trial by jury would see it as you had a motive and then an opportunity arose, and you stalked her and got her alone, and she just happened to wind up injured, and you’re the only witness” Will shook his head. “It’s not good Calvin.” He repeated himself.

“I also don’t doubt that Mr Stevens is on the phone right now, in earshot of the press, making that call to the police to report the crime of you stalking, harassing, assaulting and causing grievous bodily harm to Marilyn Riddley once more. Only this time she is really injured and in need of hospitalization.”

“What now then?” Calvin asked.

He thought about that for a minute and then sighed, “You have to admit you got into an altercation, just state the truth when questioned.

“Right.” Calvin muttered.

“Calvin, it’s better that, than having everyone make up rumours and lies about what they think happened.” Wil pressed his point and he knew those out there were going to.

Chapter 37 1

“On your way here? Ah! doesn’t want to be seen handcuffed in public in other words… You a. ie hotel still?”

“I’ll give you 25 minutes to get here and then I’m coming to arrest your client and nothing will stop me from putting cuffs on that man this time, or parading him in front of the press. Not with what I have just heard about Miss Riddley and her current state.” Detective Pullman stated, “The clock is ticking. Oh, and just in case your client is thinking about doing a runner, I’ve already dispatched a unit to his office, his home, and the private runway where he keeps his plane at.”

“There will be none of that, I assure you. See you in 25 minutes.” He looked at Calvin and stated, “Stay here, I mean it. Don’t you leave this bloody spot, Calvin.” And he was nodded at. He didn’t think Calvin was about to

flee. He wasn’t the kind to run away from a battle, he had that dogged determination to stand his ground and fight back, something he’d gotten from Marrin’s leaving of him.
