Gone from him again
Marilyn
She’d looked at the woman and three people with her, strolling into the VIP room she was recovering in.. They’d arrived just fifteen minutes after Liam, Hamilton and Lisa had left to go to that meeting with Mr Reeves and his lawyer, William.
The woman introduced herself as Bridie, Liam’s wife. He’d not come here alone, but had brought his wife because she was the one that handled domestic violence, stalkers and assault–like situations. He was all about criminal law, and that was apparently why Liam was now handling Mr Reeves.
With all that had gone on over the past week, Liam had, had Bridie and her team look into Calvin Reeves, vetted him, she’d been told, because billionaires were difficult to deal with at the best of times.
They’d also looked into the man’s ex-wife as well as Marilyn herself now, seeing that she had no memories of Calvin Reeves at all. There were connecting facts that were there for all to see if one delved into her and his life properly. Liam had already told her; that she was likely to be his ex–wife, and her boys were also going to be his.
There was no actual evidence of domestic violence within Calvin and Marrin’s marriage, but they did appear to be the perfect couple all the time. That for his wife, who dealt with family law, when seeing this, just how perfect things were. It was considered to be too perfect; that something in those marriages were usually off.
No one ever saw Calvin or Marrin behind closed doors, where anything could have happened. They’d also found out that Calvin had lived here in the city while Marrin had lived outside the city an hour away at all times. So it didn’t look like their perfect marriage was in fact perfect at all, but more like the majority of the marriage was hidden from those around them.
The couple were only ever seen at big events, and not as just an everyday couple out and about shopping, or having dinner or lunch. Just business functions and charity galas only. Liam also thought the man’s behaviour was more than irrational, seeing as they were divorced. Seen to be by him and his wife as obsessive.
Neither one of them thought that it was going to stop either, and the meeting he was going to tonight, that he had agreed to, was to see if Calvin Reeves was actually earnest in his intentions or not. Not to agree to any terms. She’d stated she just wanted to drop everything and get away from Calvin Reeves. She didn’t care what his intent now was. She didn’t want a man like that in her life, certainly not in the lives of her boys. It was clear to her that he was violent and unpredictable, had anger issues and didn’t like his ex–wife.
Liam had nodded “Bridie has her own theory, as do I. We’re going with you’re his ex–wife, and this, his behaviour now, is why you left him. So, with all of that out for us and not him yet, we don’t think. My wife will come and collect you and the children, have you discharged from the hospital and take you back to Virginia while Hamilton, Lisa and I are at tonight’s meeting.
“Everyone is aware of what the plan is, and we’ve already set in motion everything that is needed to get you and the children out of the state safely. Lisa states you’re claustrophobic and can’t get on a plane, so we’re going by road.
“Lisa is going to put in her two cents‘ worth every now and then and be difficult during the meeting, and I’ve asked that all phones be left out of the room on his part, so there will be no distractions. Effectively cutting

off anyone here in the hospital from calling him and letting him know you’ve been discharged. He socialises with the hospital director and likely many of the heads of the department.
“This is how we believe he knows about your condition, without coming to Hamilton to ask about it, he’s got people here on the inside watching you. Likely keeping his control over you even though currently he’s not allowed near you.” Liam had shaken his head. “It’s not the first time we’ve come across such things.”
“Mr Reeves himself offered up a full dinner meeting while we sort out mediation of the case between you and he. He’s trying to appear calm and rational, or as Bridie put it, showing his generous side, to show he’s not obsessive where you’re concerned.
“We’re going to stay for it all, the meal, the presentation. It should take about an hour or two with the mediation. I’ll drag that out a bit and have Lisa pipe in and push her own thoughts. His office is about 20 minutes from here, so that will give Bridie time to have you and the boys not only discharged but out of the state altogether, cross the border into Louisiana. Now if he tries anything at all after that.
“To force you back here or to him, he’ll be taking you across state lines and that’s a federal offense, so if he’s
a smart man, this should keep him from doing that. Or have his lawyer stop him from doing it. So just sit tight and agree with everything Bridie says to the doctors here, we’ve got it all covered, and you’ll be home in
a couple of days.
They’d not even eaten dinner. Bridie had turned up before that, and she’d been helped into her clothes and all her boys‘ things had been packed up while Bridie had laid the law down with the doctors out there. Producing another neurosurgeon’s letter stating he was taking over Marilyn’s case, and she was being transported to
his hospital not only at his request but at Marilyn’s as well.
She had no idea if she’d known if she was pregnant with his children at the time. The accident had obliterated that part of her knowledge. But something else was now bothering her. If she’d left him because he was an abusive husband, then why had she called him from her car? What was her reason for doing that if she was trying to get away from him?
She knew driving and talking on the phone were not allowed, and that doing so could risk one having a car accident, so why had she done it? What was the reason behind leaving him, changing her name to hide from him but then calling him and risking leaving him a trail to find her later on.
Gone from him again
Or had she really been running from a crazy obsessive ex–husband? She didn’t know the answers to those questions. All she did know was that she was not that person anymore and wouldn’t be going back to an angry obsessive ex not even if he was a billionaire and the father of her boys.
She was not going to subject either one of them to that kind of home life. No one deserved to live with the constant fear and worry of when or how one would set off a rage in that man. She didn’t even know if it would only stay aimed at her or if he’d turn it on the boys at some point. A lot of abuse moved from the spouse to the children. Everyone suffered in an abusive relationship. She was not going to do that to her
children..
