Marilyn
She was standing by the living room window waiting for the boys to come home from school. She’d stopped working for the day, due to having a headache that was so bad she’d not been able to focus on anything at
all.
The day outside was quite windy, and the trees were blowing relentlessly with it, which brought dappled light in and out of her office, and it was playing havoc with her, causing her not just dizziness, but an ever–increasing headache, She’d had to pull on her sunglasses and leave the studio to return to the house where the overhang of the veranda stopped a lot of the light play changes that affected her.
She’d also had to take something for her headache and sit still for a long while to make that dizziness go away. Though she had gotten up and made herself a cup of tea, and was just holding it now, while waiting for the boys to come home. She watched them get out of the car and look towards her office, across the creek and not see her there.
Then they were just rushing in through the door calling out for her, both their faces lit up with big smiles, they were grinning up at her so big, clearly excited about something. “What makes you two so happy?” she asked.
“The school is getting a big donation.” Callum smiled up at her. “It’s getting all new computers and the latest classroom technology.”
That made her stare at them, a frown on her face. She’d not read anything like that in the monthly update magazine that came home on the last Friday of every month. “From where?” she asked.
“Some big corporation,” Vincent stated, and was then digging into his bag. “Everyone got a thingy about it.” He pulled out a small booklet and held it up to her, and she saw right there on the front of it was the charity’s name and alongside it, a company’s name; C.R. Technology.
She took the booklet and sighed internally as she realised this was Calvin Reeves‘ company. She waved them off to put their bags down, and go get after–school snacks, as she flipped through the pages.
Not only was their school getting all new computers and tablets for every classroom, but they were also getting all new electronic whiteboards and the latest computer programs that benefited the educational needs of the school’s children. The underprivileged children were all going to be getting tablets to take home, and if they didn’t have internet at home, C.R. Technology was going to provide it to them for free for the next
12 months.
It was apparently a new charitable initiative by the CEO and founder, one Calvin Reeves; one lucky primary school per year would see the classroom technology be completely upgraded at no cost to them. She moved her eyes to the boys after snapping a picture of the cover of it, and she handed it back to them. There was no photo of Calvin Reeves in that booklet.
She sent an email of that photo to Liam Stevens and typed a message to go with it “I believe William, Calvin’s lawyer, lied to us, this just came home from school with the boys.” She knew that Liam had vetted Calvin Reeves therefore would know exactly who was now sending things to the school where the twins were
attending.
It took him almost an hour to reply to her email with “We’ll address that in the meeting. William assures me
CHRZ
he’s said nothing, sounded annoyed when I called him directly about this and then sent the picture
She looked at her boys sitting smiling on the couch. They’d taken the booklet back and were going through it. and she knew why. They understood who Calvin Reeves was, the man from Texas who thought she looked like his missing wife. When she sat down with them, they looked up at her. “Can we look him up? Callum
asked.
She wasn’t going to be able to stop it, they could likely just do it from the school if she didn’t allow it. She had no idea when this upgrade at the school was going to happen, or if that man himself was going to turn up. But it was clear to her that he’d found out the boys were his, or maybe had seen a picture of her boys and just presumed they were his.
She didn’t really know which it was, but it was all going to come out, and she had no say in it. Marilyn nodded at them. “I’ll do it.” she murmured and went and got her own laptop. She guessed it wasn’t right to let them
see all the bad stuff that had been written about him around her from their trip to Houston. Doing it herself,
she would be in control of what they saw.
Marilyn made sure all the information they got was about his company. There was, however, a photo of him on there with his bio; that hadn’t been there a few days ago, he’d updated it. Marilyn was betting on the reason why he’d updated his profile. It was so that if the school put it up for them to see, his picture would be right there for the boys to look at. The man was trying to encroach on not only her life but the boys. She
wondered if this was a breach of his contract.
He technically wasn’t here, or bothering her. He was just setting out to upgrade the boy’s school. She wondered what made him think about doing that. Or was he trying to interact with the boys in a roundabout way? That showed them he wasn’t a bad person, that he was not only wealthy, but charitable as well, she
She saw them both really look at Calvin Reeves and then two sets of hazel–green eyes were looking right at
house was.”
Marilyn watched as they both stared up at her a little wide–eyed. She had their full and undivided attention now. “I don’t know what to feel about everything boys. Where that man is concerned.. but his lawyer had me run a DNA test on you two against that man” she sighed and reached out to touch their faces; she could see
