Ch 83
Wil
He sat watching Marilyn as she laid it all out for Calvin. It was pretty much what he was expecting of her as well. He saw Liam frown at her multiple times; that man had no idea what she was going to say in this room,
he realised.
He knew it was Marilyn’s request to have Calvin brought here, and he now wondered if she just wanted to hurt Calvin as much as he had hurt her. It was entirely possible. He couldn’t tell how much of what he was seeing was an act to put Calvin in his place, or to provoke Calvin into an angry outburst.
She was, however, standing there with full security back up, so likely she was trying to get him to lash out at her. If she could get that from him here today, it would give her an absolute reason to have the charges previously dropped, reinstated along with new ones.
He stopped pulling Calvin into line himself at one point, because he didn’t need to do it anymore. She had Calvin’s undivided attention, just like he’d stated in that last meeting; it was likely only Marilyn herself who could pull Calvin from his obsession, and back to reality. Calvin, he could see, was actually not only watching her but listening to her. This was just what the man needed.
To hear it all from Marilyn herself, just how she felt about the things that he had done to her. Wil sat and watched, thinking she was actually trying to give Calvin a full reality check, the woman before him right now, standing there arguing her point and determined to get it across.
She was the Marrin Wil had seen the day the divorce papers had been handed to her, when she’d refused to sign them then and there, as Calvin had wanted her to; expected her to, in fact. That look on her face right this minute was all Marrin, and the attitude the way she stood there at the table and stated things directly to
Calvin’s face.
It was just the same as she had done to Wil in his own office, laying down the law about what she wanted. She’d told him herself she knew how to hold her/own and stand up for herself. She had been alone all her life and could handle anything thrown at her.
Marrin was definitely inside this woman somewhere. If Calvin could, by some miracle, win her over, and she got her memories back in full. Calvin was going to find himself with a wife who was going to stand and stare him down. Argue her point of view, she’d not been able to do that inside their contract marriage due to a clause about not making a scene, there would be no contact the second time around.
This woman wasn’t going to be the sweet, gentle–natured wife that Calvin was used to seeing when they were together. There would be no smiling at him and just doing as she was told. No, she was going to be a real handful. He smiled to himself as he sat there and thought about that. She’d grown in the past eight years, and what he was seeing was what he thought Anabell had told him about her once. “She’s
know Wil.”
all sweet, you
It had come after someone had tried to snatch Marrin’s handbag as they’d run past her. Only Marrin hadn’t let go, had yanked that man to a full stop, and to Anabell’s shock had kicked him right in the balls and that bag snatcher had gone down hard/
Marrin had pulled no punches that day, and it had been that very day that Anabell had come home and told him she wanted to take up kickboxing, so she could be badass and defend herself, just like Marrin had.

He saw Liam look at him and his amused smile at what he was watching and sent him a text “That’s Marrin I’m seeing. It amuses me is all. We’ll work something out. I see what she is doing.”
“Reading him the riot act.” Liam had sent right back.
“Mm, my wife does that on the odd occasion,” Wil admitted.
“You’re not concerned, Wil? She did just ask me to reinstate that restraining order and include the children.”
“Just wait… she’ll call you, I think, after it’s all over, if she doesn’t get what she wants from this meeting. I think Marilyn is trying to do this her way. It’s actually what Marrin did in the end. I’ll wait on the outcome, likely she’s plotted and planned as a writer how she wants this to go. First and foremost, putting Calvin squarely in his place. She’s also likely the only person in the world that can actually do this.”
“Did you actually nearly quit?” Liam texted him.
“Yes. It made him somewhat come to his senses. I told him I should be her lawyer, but this right now should work. He is actively listening to her, hearing her concern and pain. He does love her, just got lost to his pain and grief. And those deceitful women tipped him over the edge, trying to convince him they were her. He will actually give into her and give her what she wants now that he knows the truth of who she is, and she’s admitted it to him.”
“So please don’t make them suffer the loss of a father that will give them the world. The chance to meet me or the chance for me to apologise to them, for all that has gone on; not being there when they were born, to see all their milestones, for ruining our marriage and making you feel like I abandoned you. They deserve to have a father, get to know me and be a part of each other’s lives.”
Wil watched her stand there, staring all hard and closed off towards Calvin “Really and what makes you think I’ll believe your words now?” she countered instantly. Wil saw it coming, but Calvin didn’t.
“Ask me, tell me what it is you want, Marilyn, I will do it.” Calvin stated. “Right now, if I can.”
und you to do
I don’t
“I did.” Calvin admitted right to her “I also won’t do it again, as long as you don’t just vanish into thin air.” Calvin stated, “Please don’t do that to me. That is what started all of this, my… obsession with finding you and it getting all twisted up. I couldn’t deal with the fact that it was my fault, and so turned it on you. want to do that anymore, never, ever again.”
