There was a car waiting at the international glacial airport. It was small but supported many flights coming in and out of it, so people could get to this part of the world. The driver they were to have had been requested and sorted out by Cameron and the man greeted Heath and shook his hand, and the introductions were made while the luggage was placed in the large seven–seater four–wheel drive.
She checked her watch. It was almost 1140 and the flight they were waiting for was about to arrive. It was due in as little as 10 minutes. She had time to take the boys to the bathroom. And upon coming back, as the boys were climbing into the very back seat, she watched as a plane landed, and she could see it was the right air carrier.
She’d spent a lot of time over the past few weeks texting Anabell outside of her working hours and did now recall being her friend. She still had the odd dream of not being able to escape Calvin, though no longer did she find her younger self in those dreams. She’d done as the neurosurgeon had told her, not fight it and accepted that part of her.
She recalled having many coffees out with Anabell in that last year of her life as Marrin, as well as lunches and a few dinners too. They really had gotten along even though there was a seven–year age gap. It had surprised her that Will had married a girl of 22 when he’d been 36. She was 14 years younger than Wil.
But from all she’d heard, Anabell was happy with her husband, he was well settled and devoted to her and their marriage. Never really asked anything of her, just happy to be the two of them. Anabell being so much younger than him and not ready to start a family right out of law school, he’d not pushed her for that either. Though Anabell had already told her something she’d not told Wil, they were about to have their first child. She was going to tell him officially this coming week. She’d only found out yesterday herself and thought he’d stop her from coming on this trip, so she was withholding it until she got back.
Anabell had told Wil she was going to have a girls weekend with Marilyn, in the Rocky Mountains. Apparently he’d been surprised by it but not stated she couldn’t go, because he knew that his wife was talking to her near on daily. But he’d also stated that he wouldn’t tell Calvin anything about it. He was hoping that spending time with Anabell would help her to get some of her memories back and that was what this weekend was
also about.
She had like 80% of her memories she thought, and her neurosurgeon also thought that spending time with a familiar person might help retrieve what was still missing. Seeing as she was getting them allck in bits and pieces.
The knowledge she held about what happened on Calvin’s end and that nothing had been what it seemed to her, but that didn’t excuse his behaviour of late, and she wasn’t going to just let it slide. No, he had to learn a lesson, and she was going to be the one to teach him, that when you loved something, you should be honest about it, or at least he should have been back then.
Marilyn knew now none of this would have happened if only he’d told her the truth of what he wanted to do. She could actually see the grand gesture he’d planned out, and understood it was very sweet of him to do that, but she also knew he’d gone about it in a very wrong manner. It also hadn’t been necessary at all in her eyes, like he believed it was.
He’d moved in the shadows, and now it was her turn to return the favour. She’d not told Calvin, Wil or even the boys that she had regained most of her memories, had simply told Anabell she wanted to figure things out on her own. Not be told things by Calvin that he probably wanted her to hear.
She had, however, told Wil that she did have that one memory of her and Calvin at the airport saying goodbye, and how it was triggered. But she’d also told him how she felt about that very memory, that she believed Calvin had been in love with another woman. Only to have him try and tell her it wasn’t the truth, that the other woman was herself. To which she’d cut him off by stating “This is why I will do it on my own Wil, because nothing you or he can say, will stop me from knowing that very thing about Calvin on that day.”
Wil had sighed and let it go and Anabell had promised not to tell Wil about the fact that Marilyn had recovered a lot more memory than she was letting on. Anabell had in fact chuckled “That’s client confidentiality, I can do that, even from Wil. We don’t talk about work anyway. Hire me Marilyn. I’m a divorce lawyer, deal with family law and the family courts all the time. Calvin will love that and Wil.” She’d snorted. Won’t take me on in a courtroom. Will step aside. He doesn’t like the idea of having to choose between his best friend and his wife, once told me he would never. Would just stay out of it, if it ever came down to that.”
It had also made Marilyn chuckle, and she’d only thought about it for a singular moment before stating ” Anabell will you be my legal representation for family court matters.”
“Yes I will.” Anabell had laughed right back. “I’ll stick it to Calvin. I know most of his assets too, so there will be no hiding anything.” she’d snorted, fully amused, it appeared.
She’d also told Wil about that little agreement, and he’d apparently just shaken his head and stated, “Calvin will not want to go to court with Marilyn over this.” Something Anabell actually agreed with herself. She didn’t see him doing that either, likely bend over backwards to give her what she wanted in an effort to get her to
come to like him.
Marilyn watched as Anabell got off the plane as it was disembarking and waved at her, walked over to the waiting car with a simple carry–on luggage, and stated “Now, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes!”
“It’s good to see a familiar face in person, Anabell.” She’d smiled right back. “Did you manage to keep your secret from Wil?”
“I did,” she smiled “His birthday is on Tuesday, and I’m going to give him a gift he’ll like. Now where are the two munchkins I’ve not yet met?”
They were off to Marina Cay, Bigfork, where Marilyn had booked a three–bedroom condo for her, the boys and Anabell to stay in, and two one–bedroom condos for Heath and Doyle, their pilot, so they’d all be staying in the same place. Anabell had stated she was happy to share a room with her and the boys and, seeing as Marilyn herself had most of her memories back, she saw no issue with it either.
Marilyn had avoided breaching that contract because Wil knew she was leaving the state, to go on a writing
retreat, not the entire truth, but she could, as a writer, take inspiration for anywhere she went. She’d also not told Anabell about the house they were off to look at, in just an hour and a half, after they had all settled in and had lunch.
