Love In Danger novel Chapter 10

"Coffee?" Dominic said as we passed the staff room.

"Yes please," I nodded. I watched closely as my colleague removed two mugs from a cupboard. He skillfully manoeuvred around the kitchen; a clear sign that he has been here for many years and has a good understanding of his surroundings.

"So tell me about yourself, Sophia," he broke the silence between us. I glanced around the staff room which was empty apart from one woman who sat at the back with a pair of earphones in. She glanced up and gave me a warm smile and then returned to her phone.

"Well, I started here about 2 months ago-"

"No that's boring stuff. Tell me about yourself like where you grew up, what schools you went to." What was this 20 questions or a date?

I hesitated. "I was raised in New York and I attended NYU." I decided to give him as little information as possible because I have never felt comfortable talking about myself or my childhood.

"NYU, that's impressive. I take it you studied journalism?" He asked.

"Yes that and literature."

"You write?"

I shook my head, "I haven't in a long time. When I was younger I used to write stories for my baby brother Ethan but they were mostly just altered fairy tales." I smiled at the memory.

Dominic handed me a mug with a genuine smile and then we walked together to his office making small talk about the company. He must have caught on that I felt uncomfortable talking about myself because he didn't ask any more questions, instead he led the conversation always picking the topics.

I entered Dominic's office and he showed me where my desk would be placed. The room was shaped like an odd L. The longer part of the room was occupied by a small conference table at one end and Dominic's desk at the other. The part of the room off to the right is where my desk will be placed meaning that we can both have some privacy while we work.
