Love In Danger novel Chapter 4

"I haven't seen Kelly in 2 months and she nearly died, whether we go together or not I am going to the hospital once I have my shoes on." I made it clear that I would not let him control every aspect of my life as he tried to do before- even if it was for my own good.

He sighed and reached into the bag which previously held his clean set of clothes. I watched as he removed an A5 sized notebook. He handed it to me. I examined the outside of the book, from what I could see the notebook was obviously used and quite often as the pages were crinkled. I flicked through the book, each page was full with Noah's writing.

"What is this?" I say confused.

"Your explanation," he shrugs. "Everything I have ever wanted to tell you about my life but couldn't is written in that journal. Everything up to the day Kelly was shot. Read it, I'll be back in an hour and we'll talk."

Just as I was about to protest and demand I go with him he left the hotel room. I really did want answers and who better to get them from than Noah during the times I need to know about. If what he says is true about what this notebook contains I guess I am going to have answers to my many questions.

I padded over to the bed and sat directly in the middle leaning my back against the headboard. Once comfortable I turned to the first page. The date read August 22nd 207. Last year? My birthday? I didn't even know Noah McKenzie then. Our first real encounter was in November when I had my interview for MKT. Apparently, we had known each other when we were younger- according to my grandmother's letter but it was such a long time ago.

My eyes glanced over the words noticing some in particular. The word's sorry and she doesn't deserve this stand out. I begin to read...

August 22nd 2017

I have a year from today to get it done and even though I haven't met her yet I need her to know that I am sorry, that's why I have sworn to write everything down so when it comes to an explanation everything will be here. I don't doubt that I'll have to explain myself. I can be an arrogant bastard at times but I care.

November 26th 2017

She's smart, beautiful and now my employee. The interview with her today was a success, she has the job and starts tomorrow. It's good to see her after so many years, seeing her again made me remember the times we used to play in my garden together as a kid. It always felt like a chore because she was about 2 years younger than me.

I continued reading, each diary entry seemed to be more apologetic and detailed than the last. The entries also seemed to get longer and longer but I powered through taking in all of the information Noah is giving me. One entry stands out to me, it's dated about a month before my 25th birthday, around the same time as the house party Noah showed up unexpectedly to.

I was in my father's study today, there was no one at the house. I hated snooping through my parent's things but what choice did I have? This year is going far too quickly and I still don't know enough. Sophia and my relationship has progressed faster than I had expected, I am falling for her hard. I kicked her out of my apartment because I was becoming far too involved but being away from her hurts. That's why I went to my parent's house, they thought I didn't know she was staying there but I do and I'm grateful she's in a safe environment.
