"Yeah, I guess I owe her a thank you," I ignored the last part of his statement. There is an awkward silence between us and I walk over to the large window which overlooks New York City.
"Are you going to?" His voice broke through the silence.
"Going to what?" I continued to stare out onto buildings pretending to be completely oblivious.
"Stay"
I turned back to his sad expression, "I've built a life for myself Noah, I have a job and responsibilities."
"It's only been a month..." he mumbled under his breath but I heard it and decided to call him out.
"I know but I'm finally happy there and there are no complications," I immediately knew I had picked the wrong choice of words as his expression changed to one of anger.
"You were never happy here. Working for me? Living with my family?" The disgust and spite was clear in his voice.
"That's not what I meant..." I chew on my lip.
"Well what the fuck did you mean then?" He shouts.
"When I'm there I don't have to think about you!" I yell back. Wrong choice of words again I curse myself.
His form immediately stands and he strides over to me, he is now inches away from me, his body is so close to mine that I am forced to take a couple of steps backwards. My back is pressed up against the window. Noah's breathing is deep but he speaks softly, "when you're there all I can think about is you." He raises his hand and tucks a strand of hair behind my ear.
I step around him and head for the door, "uh I'm going to go to the hospital." I pick up my bag and rush out of the door leaving Noah in the room and saving myself from doing something I would definitely regret and make me change my mind about going back to Pennsylvania.
I've been back in New York for about a week now, and I've been spending all of my time at the hospital visiting Kelly. The day Noah gave me my explanation was also the day that we found out Kelly would be able to go home within the month. She is in a stable condition, the emergency operation she had to have on the day that I got here and found her bed empty, was successful.
I have been here all day every day for as long as the hospital would allow. Being in the best hospital in New York meant that the rules were slightly different here especially as thousands of dollars are paid to have the best accommodation and care, which also means that there are no strict visiting hours that I am aware of.
