Chapter 244 

Charlie returned home almost as fast as lightning- 

Florence had been to his home. He did not know what she said or what psychological warfare tactics she had employed. He had never been interested in her or expected her to go to his home to provoke Kamryn. 

Charlie thought, ‘Kamryn is pregnant and cannot have bad emotions. If she misunderstands me and gets angry, I will not spare Florence! If I were Kamryn, I would have gotten angry after a strange woman suddenly visited me and deliberately said misleading words. Kamryn has not called me to ask about it after a long time. She must be angry with me!” 

Charlie parked the car and went upstairs. When he anxiously opened the door, he found the lights were on. After smelling the pleasant smell from the kitchen, he calmed down. 

When he opened the kitchen door, he saw Kamryn silently chopping vegetables with her back to him.

The sound of the knife hitting the chopping board was steady, robust, and rhythmic. 

He said in a muffled voice, “Kamryn” 

Kamryn was stunned and then looked back. Seeing him suddenly appearing behind her with cold vibes, she was taken aback. 

“Why are you standing behind me in silence?” 

Her tone showed no blame as if Florence had not come with the jacket. 

Charlie frowned and observed her face. But he could not tell whether she was pretending to be calm or she was not angry at all. 

Seeing his strange expression, Kamryn felt more confused and nervous. So, she asked, “What’s wrong? Why do you look so stern?” 

Charlie suddenly came over and put his arm around her waist from behind. When he hugged her, she didn’t resist. Instead, she gently held his hands. So, he knew she was not angry. He had thought she would angrily question him with grievances. But it did not happen. 

He rested his head on her shoulder and breathed a sigh of relief. 

Kamryn was amused and asked, “What’s wrong? Why are you hugging me without speaking?” 

He asked, “Has anyone come here today?” 

Kamryn hesitated and replied, “Yes, a woman came.” 

She had almost forgotten the matter but remembered it after hearing his words. Then, she added, “She came here to return something 

“My suit jacket?” 

She calmly nodded, “Yeah.” 

Charlie immediately apologized, saying. Im sorry for lying to you. She got drunk yesterday. When I helped her, she left a lip print on my jacket. I lied because I did not want you to overthink.” 

Kamryn remembered he had said he had left the jacket in the car because it was dirty. Knowing he had been afraid she would feel worried because of that woman’s lip print, she smiled, “I know. I said it was dirty and asked her to throw it away.” 

She had said so because Charlie had told her it was dirty. She had just conveyed his words to Florence. 

“What did she say to you?” 

She truthfully replied, “She said some nonsense and asked me not to misunderstand why you came home late last night. She attempted to mislead me into believing something had happened between you!”

“Really? Why didn’t you doubt me?” 

He thought all ordinary women would get angry about such things.. 

Kamryn asked, “Do you know what I hate the most about my father?” 

“No.” 

“When my mother was ill in bed, his mistresses came one after another to provoke her. But when I questioned him, he always refused to admit it. He was impatient and always avoided my eyes. But you did not avoid my gaze last night. I know you didn’t cheat on me. Even if you lied, it is a white lie” 

Charlie gently kissed her and said, “You turned out to be so smart.” 

“You’re smarter than me! You know you should throw away the jacket with her lip print.” 

He calmly replied, “When I saw her put on lipstick, I knew she was pretending to be drunk and would play dirty tricks. If she had been so drunk, she would not have remembered to fix her makeup!” 

“Hahaha!” 

Kamryn laughed. She had not expected him to be able to see through such tricks. 

“Aren’t you jealous?” 

Charlie felt a little surprised and disappointed. He had somehow looked forward to seeing her jealous. But she did not give him a chance to coax him. 

Kamryn innocently shrugged, “There is no need to feel jealous! I don’t believe a word of her. She was lying. You have such a beautiful wife, so you will never cheat on me with her. After all, you are not blind.” 

Charlie felt speechless and helplessly laughed. 

Seeing him a little disappointed, she confusedly asked, “Are you disappointed?” 

“Sort of” 

He admitted it, feeling ill at ease. 

Seeing his flushed face, she knew he was shy and thought he looked cute. So, she teased him, saying, “Sorry for letting you down. I had known it earlier; I would have pretended to be angry.” 

Charlie cleared his throat, put on a severe face, and said, “Come on. Don’t make fun of me.” 

Then, he changed the topic, asking. “What are you cooking?” 

“Shredded pork with green pepper.” 

“Shredded pork with green pepper?” 

He glanced at the chopped green peppers and shredded pork on the plate and asked, “Are there any other dishes tonight?”
