Nicole had no clue how Charlie could have caught on to her scheme.

Charlie said calmly. “Impossible?” 

He leaned back on the couch, enjoying the sight of her desperate humiliation. There was no sign of pity on his face; instead, a deep–rooted disgust filled his being. 

“What makes you think you can fool me and pull off such a low move behind my back? Nicole, stop thinking your pipe dream. Sticking to your fantasies will only make me hate you more.” 

His eyes flashed with scorn, cutting through her like a knife. 

Nicole stared into his sharp gaze, feeling totally empty, as if every bone in her body had been smashed into pieces. It was as if she had lost her mind, mumbling nonstop, “No way, no way…” 

This man always had a way of knocking her down with just a few words, leaving her battered and bleeding. 

“But, thanks to your heads–up, I realized this hidden threat. So, when you went for artificial insemination, I had people go there personally to trash those things.” 

After speaking, he casually smirked, looking somewhat aloof and calm. “Isn’t it time for you to wake up from your dream?” 

Nicole bit her lip hard, crying out in despair. 

She thought, ‘Not only did I wake up, but my dream got completely shattered. How could it be like this? I had planned for so long, and yet he easily ruined it all. In a flash, I had fallen from the sky into the abyss, completely broken.” 

In a daze, she looked up and saw Kamryn’s peaceful face. Throughout it all, Kamryn stayed graceful and composed, as if this conversation had nothing to do with her.

She thought, Yes. Now she is like a princess high above, treasured by Charlie. He has all out to build a huge castle for her, guarding her within its walls. No matter what I did, I couldn’t hurt her even a bit. How I wish I could have this kind of love! I also want to be a carefree princess, enjoying Charlie’s love! 

But Charlie’s cold words echoed in her ears. 

“Isn’t it time for you to wake up from your dream?” 

She looked at him like she had gone crazy, holding on to the last shred of hope. She pushed him hard, asking, “Charlie, I don’t need you to man up anymore. I truly don’t anticipate you being accountable, so don’t be so tough on me. Just level with me. Tell me, is the baby in my belly yours? Are you pushing for me to get rid of him because you can’t stand him, and that’s why you said those things?” 

She wondered, Were those words just meant to piss me off so that I would agree to abort the baby? Is that it? 

But all she got was Charlie’s cold answer. 

He uid indifferently, “Don’t be ridiculous.” 

Those dismissive words threw her into despair again. 

Nicole stumped in the chair, her body shaking, unable to muster any strength to speak. Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed helplessly

Kamryn glanced at Charlie and suddenly felt that this man was truly wicked.

Chapter 267 

Hold on, why am I even thinking about protecting the babe! I’m not some baby he brought into the world. At most, it’s about protecting his wife. Why am I getting all caught up in this nonsense about protecting babes? 

While Kamryn was lost in her own random thoughts, Charlie had already called Zackery’s phone number. 

He had expected that, as soon as Nicole came back to Faycaster, she would immediately look for him. Right now, her family probably had no clue that she had returned to Faycaster. 

He thought, If the Duarte family finds out that they have such a rebellious daughter in the family. I wonder how Zackery’s stern face will react? He’ll probably be mad for several days 

This made him quite excited. 

It was already late at this time. 

Zackery had gone to bed early, but because of Nicole’s absence, he couldn’t sleep well. In just over a month, he had aged visibly. 

Rose advised him to rest early and take care of himself, but he just couldn’t sleep soundly. 

While he was half–asleep, a ringing startled him. He thought it was Nicole’s call, so he quickly answered, but as soon as he picked up, Charlie’s voice came through the receiver. “Mr. Duarte, Nicole is back.” 

Charlie’s words were always brief and direct. He got straight to the point with almost no chit–chat. 

Zackery snapped out of his daze as soon as he heard that Nicole had returned to Faycaster. Overcome with excitement, he immediately asked, “Where is Nicole? Can I talk to her?” 

“I’m afraid not.” 

“Why?” 

Charlie glanced at Nicole, who was sitting across from him, totally crushed and sobbing. Clearly, she was in no shape to answer any phone calls. So he explained, “She’s dealing with some drama. It’s better if you come with your family to sort together.” 

“What?” 

“Your lovely daughter has gotten herself into trouble. Without your help, I doubt it will be solved easily, you know,” 

That distant and cold term of address left Zackery confused. He was instantly lost and asked, “What’s going on exactly?” 

“Your daughter is pregnant.”

With an ear–piercing beep, Charlie emotionlessly hung up the call and quickly sent the address.
