Chapter 46 

Charlie didn’t care if there was anything fishy about Jenna’s blood type. 

Charlie had some dealings with Jenna and was particularly disgusted by the way she did things. Therefore, even if she was a successful match, he was reluctant to choose her. 

“You’re by far the best match I’ve ever had 

After a long silence, Kamryn said, “If I say yes, I want to know if hematopoietic stem cells can only be obtained through umbilical cord blood?” 

“Yes. It’s the least damaging way to do it.” 

“Well…” 

Kamryn wanted to ask Charlie how he was going to get her pregnant if she had to have a baby to get cord blood. 

Seeing Kamryn hesitating, Charlie suddenly understood what she was trying to say. He immediately said, “There are three ways to get pregnant; natural conception, artificial insemination, and in–vitro fertilization. Artificial insemination and IVF are the most painful.” 

Kamryn fell silent. 

She looked at Charlie and suddenly lowered her head. Before she knew it, she flushed again. 

She knew how important Eugene was to Charlie, but she changed her mind just because she felt sorry for Eugene. 

She wasn’t quite ready actually. 

Charlie smiled when he saw that Kamryn was still hesitant. “Actually, you don’t have to force yourself. I won’t force you if you don’t…” 

I’ll do it…” 

Kamryn interrupted Charlie all of a sudden. 

Charlie’s eyes widened in surprise. He didn’t expect Kamryn to say that!

‘I’ll do it.” 

After a pause, Kamryn clenched her fists and added, “For the sake of Eugene.” 

“Are you serious?” 

“Yes! I won’t regret it. I’ve thought about this for a long time.” 

Kamryn was in an intense mental struggle as she sat by Eugene’s bed. She held his little hand, and even with gloves. on, she could imagine how cold it was. 

The thought of not being able to see such a lovely child grow up made her heart ache for no reason! 

She didn’t know if she would regret it later. But if she did nothing, she would definitely regret it if anything happened to Eugenel 

Charlie took a deep breath and looked up at the ceiling. Suddenly, he reached out and held Kamryn tightly in his 

amms. 

He held her so hard that his arms trembled! 

“Thank you! I owe you one!” 

Chapter 46 

In the sterile ward, Kamryn, wearing a thick protective suit, sat quietly by Eugene’s bed. 

Eugene’s heart rate went up and down, then back to normal. 

Kamryn’s phone suddenly rang. 

She went outside the ward to answer the phone and heard Mareli swearing, “Kamryn, are you a jinx? Jenna agreed to have you as her assistant because she felt sorry for you. And look what you’ve done! Have you ever worked a full day? What have you done right other than cause Jenna endless trouble and bad press? You…” 

“Mareli, since you called, I have something to say, too. I’m quitting.” 

“Quit?!” 

“Yes, I don’t want to do it anymore. Please go find someone else!” 

With that, Kamryn hung up the phone. 

Mareli stared at her phone in disbelief. She had thought Kamryn would beg her to keep her job but had not expected her to quit so easily. 

Jenna was confused to see Mareli’s expression. “What did she say?” 

“She said she quit.” 

Mareli got angry. “I don’t understand why you’re being so nice to her. Look what she’s done to you! She’s missing 

work!!!” 

“Forget it. Don’t worry. She’s gonna ask Dante for another job. By then…” 

Jenna stopped talking in the middle of her sentence. 

Mareli leaned in, and Jenna whispered something to her. Mareli’s eyes lit up, and she smiled. Jenna, that’s a great idea! It’s time to punish that bad girl!” 

Malice glinted in Jenna’s eyes. 

After one day and one night, Eugene finally survived the infection in the sterile ward and turned the corner. 

Kamryn, however, fell ill. 

She had a fever of 102 F. She was chronically malnourished and had a poor immune system. 

Charlie was at the office chairing two quarterly meetings, and Eugene was in the ward. 

Kamryn didn’t tell anyone about it. She secretly bought some medicine, took two fever reducers, and slept through the night. Her temperature dropped a bit when she caught up on her sleep. 

When she woke up, she saw several missed calls, 

Five calls from Dante, and one from an unknown number. 

She first called back the unknown number. A few seconds later, someone answered the phone. 

“You’re awake?” 

Charlie’s voice inexplicably calmed Kamryn. 

“Mmm.” 

“This is my private number. Call me at this number if you need anything in the future.” 

“Okay.”

Charlie had not once had a good talk with Kamryn about Eugene since she had told him she would help Eugene Seeing that Kamryn was visibly weak, Charlie arranged for an intensive care unit where she could rest 

“Send me your bank account.” 

“Bank account?” 

Kamryn was puzzled. “What do you want it for?” 

“Transfer money. 

“To… to me?” 

Charlie knew that Kamryn had no stable job and was struggling to make ends meet.
