Chapter 337
“What’s it to you?” Jessica’s voice cut through the air like ice. She tried to walk around Brian and Jacob, but Jacob caught her sleeve.
“What?” Jessica looked down at him. She wondered, ‘Does Jacob even know his dad already had a baby with Madeline? Probably not. Otherwise, how could he act so normal around me?‘
“Mom, I brought you my favorite cotton candy.” Jacob forced himself to ignore Jessica’s coldness, his small face lighting up with a smile. He held the cotton candy higher, hoping she’d get a better look at it.
Jessica stared at the colorful, perfectly spun treat. After a few seconds of silence, she said, “You eat it.” She pulled her sleeve free and turned to leave
Jacob didn’t hesitate–he ran after her. “Mom, I already ate some. It’s really good, just try a bite. Please?”
Jessica couldn’t shake him off. Finally, she took the cotton candy, then shut the door in his face.
But Jacob wasn’t upset at all. He was thrilled. “Dad, you were right. Mom still cares about me.” Otherwise, she could just say no.
The more Jacob thought about it, the happier he became. Anyone could see his mood had brightened completely.
Brian wasn’t as easily satisfied as Jacob. He stared at the closed door, still thinking about Jessica’s exhausted and frightened expression from earlier. Brian was sure he hadn’t misread it–it was fear.
Brian wondered, ‘Did that person slip past him again to deliver something to Jessica? Did they scare her?”
The thought made Brian immediately call the bodyguard stationed in the underground garage, asking if Jessica had encountered any suspicious people when she returned. The answer was no–everything was normal.
‘Am I really overthinking this?‘ Brian lowered his head. ‘No, something I didn’t know about had definitely happened.”
He contacted Jackson directly to increase the investigation’s intensity. Whatever the cost, they had to dig out whoever was hiding in the shadows.
Meanwhile, Jessica had no appetite for dinner when she got home but was genuinely hungry. In the end, she simply finished the cotton candy Jacob had given her, washed up, and went to bed.
She wanted to use sleep to escape her gradually sinking mood.
Unfortunately, she forgot that dreams existed, too.
Jessica had just fallen asleep when she found herself somewhere else entirely.
The sharp smell of hospital disinfectant made her gag, but what made her feel worse was the thick, metallic scent of blood growing stronger by the
second.
“Jessica, how dare you show up here! You killed my baby, and now you’re going to pay for it!” Madeline yelled.
Madeline rushed at Jessica, clutching a dead infant, her hands wrapping around Jessica’s throat.
The baby’s bloodied umbilical cord coiled around Jessica’s wrist, sending chills down her spine.
“Get away from me! I didn’t do anything!” Jessica fought desperately to break free from Madeline’s grip. Just when she thought she might escape, a familiar large hand grabbed her arm and slammed her against the wall.
“Still lying at this point? Jessica, you really disappoint me.” Brian’s cold voice made Jessica’s lips tremble uncontrollably.
“…. I didn’t!” Jessica finally gathered all her courage to shout these words. Still, it only earned her an even colder, more contemptuous look from Brians,

Jessica wanted to say more, but then someone dragged Sana over. “Jessi, save me!” Sana cried out the moment she saw lessica
“Let her go!” Jessica roared, jumping up to rush forward, but Brian grabbed her throat again.
Madeline threw her arms around Brian’s arm, tears streaming down her face. “Brian, she killed our son. You have to get revenge for me and our son
Brian looked at her gently. “Don’t worry.”
The next second, his hand tightened around Jessica’s throat, pressing harder and harder.
Jessica struggled desperately,
cat his grip, but it was useless. Each breath became harder to catch.
In her hazy state, she thought she
was about to die.
Jessica jolted awake from the nightmare, gasping violently as she rolled over and grabbed the oxygen tank from her nightstand.

breathe. She sucked in the oxygen desperately, her hand instinctively reaching for her neck. Everything was fine. Ko
“It was just a nightmare.” The empty oxygen tank clattered to the floor. Jessica collapsed back onto the bed, whispering to herself, but sleep wouldn’t come again.
Jessica wondered, ‘Was this really just a nightmare? Could it actually never come true?‘
Madeline’s bold attitude came from Brian’s support; he gave her all the confidence she needed.
Suppose Madeline really lost the baby and Brian discovered something damaging. In that case, he might turn against Jessica just like in her nightmares.
She frowned. ‘What would I do then? Ask Mom and Dad to help me again?‘
Jessica shook her head. She’d already been such a burden to them. She couldn’t drag Dereck and Stella into this mess again.
But without Dereck and Stella, she couldn’t handle Brian’s rage alone. Worse yet, it might affect how Brian treated Jacob.
The more Jessica thought about it, the heavier her heart became. Soon, she felt that familiar suffocating feeling creeping in again.
She quickly grabbed another oxygen tank and breathed deeply, forcing herself to calm down.
After an endless sleepless night, she drove straight to Wesley’s place as soon as dawn broke. Wesley listened to her troubles but couldn’t offer much more than talking through her feelings, trying his best to help her work through them.
“But this is all just treating the symptoms, not the root cause. I have to be honest with you, Ms. Grant. You really need to consider my earlier suggestion. As your pregnancy progresses, the hormones are only going to make your emotions more unpredictable.” Wesley’s tone turned serious.
Jessica held her cat close, leaning back into the couch cushions. She looked down and spoke quietly, “I just don’t have the time.”
