Chapter 6: Ice Cream Girl novel 50 More Sexcapades
“Anything else?” I asked in the most enthusiastic tone I could muster, which came out to little more than a monotone murmur.
“More sprinkles!!”
I scooped the third tablespoon of fucking sprinkles onto the already heaving monstrosity of an ice cream cone this kid was ordering.
“More! I said more!”
I gave a frustrated sigh and put several more tablespoons on there until the colossal heap of dairy was about ready to fall over. His non-empathetic mother paid and they were finally out of my sight.
I bent over to lean on my elbows, rolling my eyes at the drudgery of this dumb job. I’m Chloe Von Kristen for crying out loud- I don’t do jobs and I certainly don’t serve people. I was off for college winter break, which- for the old me - typically meant vacationing off the coast of Spain, Christmas shopping in Prague, and dining, wining, and expensive presents from my list of suitors.
But here I am, stuck in the U.S. working a damn mall job, because my family’s assets have been frozen at the most inopportune of times. I guess the decades of tax evasion and off-shore money laundering in the Von Kristen family have finally caught up with the Feds. All my credit cards have been frozen for weeks and my fake, two-faced friends took off for vacation without a second glance.
Traitors. The hurtful thought resurfaced and I must have had a pretty mad look on my face as I refilled the tray of mint chocolate chip.
“Woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, huh Chloe?” My annoying boss, Todd asked. He was trying to be playful but I wasn’t in the fucking mood for jokes.
“Uh-huh,” I said, barely audibly.
“Well look, you’re the only one here today and I need you to not scare off customers with that evil frown on your face. How about a smile for me?”
I flashed a sarcastic smile, making him chuckle.
“Hey come on, princess. Look, I know you aren’t the working type, but I still expect top-notch customer service from you. So no more eye rolls and sighing are we clear?”
