Brian, what do you mean? Are you doubting Evelyn?” 

Brennen frowned. “We’ve known each other since we were kids. You know Evelyn’s character–she wouldn’t lie.” 

Brian shot Brennen a cold glance and said, “I’ll ask you again, Evelyn.” 

Brennen seemed ready to argue further, but Evelyn gently pulled on his arm. Looking at Brian, she said softly, Brian, I really don’t know who broke into my house. But… The only person I can think of is Ms. Torrey. After all, Maddie and Lila upset her earlier today, and William stood up for her. Or maybe, it was William? Who knows?” 

Evelyn deliberately brought up William. Everyone in Gleaston knew about the long–standing rivalry between William and Brian. The two were sworn enemies. 

She expected Brian to react with the same displeasure he had shown in the past whenever William’s involvement with Ariana was mentioned. But instead, his expression turned colder. “So, you’re saying you didn’t actually see who trashed your house?” 

Evelyn froze. His calm, probing question left her speechless 

After all, when she had called Brian earlier in tears, she had deliberately hinted at Ariana as a possible suspect. It was the only reason Brian had stormed to the Torrey residence and dragged Ariana out. 

Brennan quickly stepped in. “Brian, what is this? An interrogation? Are you seriously questioning Evelyn over Ariana?” 

“Ariana is lying in there right now, and there’s no guarantee if she will lose her hand. I need to get to the bottom of this.” 

Brian’s gaze was icy. “Move aside!” 

“You!” 

Brennan was ready to continue arguing for Evelyn, but whispers arose from nearby. 

“Isn’t that Brennan Lowell?” 

“Not sure, but it really looks like him. Is that woman his girlfriend?” 

“No way! Didn’t Brennan always claim to be single?‘ 

The few ladies were whispering to themselves, but they were uncertain if he was Brennan. 

After all, Brennan’s return to the country hadn’t been publicly announced, so they weren’t certain enough to approach him for an autograph. 

Brian noticed the murmurs. “Brennan, remember your status,” he sneered. 

Brennan clenched his fist tightly. 

Evelyn quickly pulled him back, her eyes brimming with tears. “Brennan, please, let’s not make a scene. Let’s just 

go.” 

Brennan had never seen Evelyn look so vulnerable. He had countless words of comfort on the tip of his tongue, but none of them felt right. In the end, all he could do was escort Evelyn out of the hospital.
