Fiona’s face went pale. 

One clueless roommate quickly said, “Fiona’s fiancé is…” 

“Don’t spout nonsense,” another girl said, elbowing her.

Everyone at school knew Brian’s heart had always been set on his childhood friend, Evelyn. 

Now that Evelyn was right there, mentioning Brian in front of her was insane. Obviously, the roommate who arranged this dorm for Fiona had no idea about Brian and Evelyn. 

For a moment, nobody said a word. Fiona just stood there with her head down. 

“Answer me! Why aren’t you speaking?” Julia glared at Fiona. She thought Fiona was even more shameless than Ariana had been. 

“I’m sorry, Ms. Granger. I’m not trying to take Mr. Lodge from you. It was Mrs. Lodge Senior who asked me to get closer to him. If you mind, I can go speak to Mrs. Lodge Sendor and stop seeing Mr. Lodge,” Fiona said, looking pitiful. 

Students from other rooms heard the noise and came out to watch. 

Julia found Fiona’s words absurd. “Who do you think you are? You’re just a country bumpkin. Do you really think you can become Mr. Lodge’s wife? Even if Ariana stepped aside, it wouldn’t be you. How dare you say you’ll stop seeing Mr. Lodge? Let me tell you, he’s into Evelyn. At most, you’re just a helper at the Lodge residence. Don’t think that pleasing Mrs. Lodge Senior means anything. All Evelyn has to do is say the word, and you’ll never show your face in this city again.” 

“Enough, Julia. Don’t scare her.” 

Evelyn figured they had shamed Fiona enough. She stepped in, pretending to be kind. “Ms. Piper, don’t take it to heart. Brian and I don’t have much going on. I only heard you go to the Lodge residence every day to look after Mrs. Lodge Senior. That’s a lot of work. Why not live there and make it easier? Maybe Brian won’t allow it. Want me to have a word with him?” 

Fiona’s face looked terrible. 

Everyone was pointing at her. They had assured Fiona was going there to be the young mistress of the house, but it turned out she was just going back and forth to take care of Belinda. 

That was no different than being a helper. Even the helpers could stay at the Lodge residence, but Fiona couldn’t. She had to stay in someone else’s dorm. 

The roommates weren’t sure if Evelyn’s words were true. They looked to Fiona for answers. 

Evelyn had seen enough of Fiona’s embarrassment. She gave a gentle smile and tried to appear gracious, 

“Staying a few days is fine. But since I’m the student council president, I have to ensure everyone’s personal safety and property. People in this dorm building never used to lose anything, but if someone from outside moves in, who knows if something might go missing? I won’t charge you rent. You just have to sign an agreement to make sure you won’t touch anyone else’s stuff. I’m not saying you’d steal anything, but we have to follow procedure so everyone can relax.” 

Evelyn said her piece, and Fiona couldn’t refuse. She had no choice but to nod.
