Chapter 399
Mack’s p.o.v.

“Gentlemen, we need to know where each Pack-member was from eight in the evening yesterday until eight this morning.” One of the Elders says and I get up to get the report from the guards that worked the gate yesterday.

“Every Pack-member was here, the last Pack-member arrived at six thirty. Just in time for dinner I might add.” I say as I hand the Elder the reports.

“Except for Maleah D’Angelo, she was in Albarr for business.” Dominic says.

“Yes, we are aware of that. She was in her hotel room between those hours.” The Elder responds as he keeps looking through the reports.

“Why did everyone arrive home yesterday?” Elder Jorge asks and I explain that this happens before every Ball.

“We want to know who found his or her Mate and if someone didn’t we want to give them the chance to attend the Ball, Spring Ball is two weeks away as you know.” I say as I sit down next to my Father.

“Can I ask why you want to know where our Pack-members were?” Dominic asks.

“Because we are investigating the murder of Diablo, Alpha Bradley’s Son. He was found murdered this morning in his room and his Father pointed the finger at your Pack. He believes you are responsible for his Mate and her Daughter to be separated.” Elder Jorge answers and we all look at him as if he has lost his mind, Alpha Bradley accused us of killing his Son.

“Why did you look into the whereabouts of Miss D’Angelo, Elder Jorge?” Luna Elyse asks. “Last thing I heard is that she left her usual hotel because her Mother and Alpha Bradley were making trouble for her.”

Elder Jorge nods his head, “Yes, we were informed of that by the hotel manager and he even showed us the registration of her keycard, showing us that she was in the other hotel all night. It was her Mother that pointed out she stayed in the hotel as well and they hadn’t seen her that morning.” He replies.

After a few more questions the Elders leave and the moment the door closes I slough down in my seat, “What the Fuck.” I mutter and I feel my Dad’s hand on my arm.

“How are the two of you holding up?” He asks and for a moment I am not sure how to answer his question.

“I am glad everyone was in the territory, at least one murder they can’t pin on us.” Levi mumbles and I think it is safe to say that we all suspect that the Angel of Death is responsible for this murder.

“Okay, let’s turn in for the night. We have a meeting in the morning and I need you all the be sharp.” Dax says as he walks to the door and before anyone can react he is out the door.

I follow Dad up the stairs as I let it sink in that Diablo will no longer form a threat to Maleah and quietly I thank the Angel of Death for taking care of him, I will at least sleep a lot better knowing that I don’t have to worry about him coming for Maleah.

“I doubt he could have been able to hurt our Mate.” Commander growls and he shows me an Image of Fortune taking down the Rogue yesterday.

“Okay, okay. You made your point, Buddy. Fortune would have ripped him a second asshole.” I say chuckling before I focus on my food again, I rinse my pate and mug before I place them in the dishwasher and I sit back down to wait until Dad is finished with his breakfast.

Dad remains silent as he finishes getting ready and I ask him what is on his mind, “Do you remember that Maleah asked what happens to Wolves and Lycans that shift before they turn sixteen?” He asks and I nod my head.

“If the Council of Elders had known about her and had taken her away for training, she would have had a very different career. But it would have also resulted in you never getting your Mate.” He says and I know he can see the confusion on my face.

“The Council of Elders is an advocate for the Mate-bond, until it concerns one of their Assassins. They will try to convince them that it will affect their job and with Maleah being that young they would have been able to twist her mind, I am kind of grateful to her Mother for being a Bitch.” Dad says and Commander says we should thank her Mother next time she shows up, something tells me that won’t take too long.

Dad and I walk up the stairs to the Alpha floor, Dominic thought it was better if we had this meeting in their private office and after the visitors we had last night I am glad he made that decision. We don’t want an Omega to overhear something they shouldn’t and even though most of them wouldn’t repeat a word of what was being said, I can’t say that that would go for all of them.

Commander growls softly in my head when we see that Maleah isn’t here yet and instead of sitting down I remain standing, I hope she will sit down on a couch to allow me to sit next to her. I fear Dad is right, I will need her to keep me and Commander calm and having her close will do just that.
