Chapter 89 

Alena 

I was quietly snuggled close to Matteo’s neck as he carried me. He was being careful with his steps before putting me down on the bed after we had reached our bedroom. I was hesitant on letting go of him but he wasn’t going anywhere and he assured me. 

My eyes continued to look at him, afraid if he was going to disappear when I looked away. 

Our bedroom was dark but he switched on the lamp from the bedside table before he sat beside me, grabbing onto my hand. 

“I can’t breathe,” I whimpered as I tried to control my breaths. 

Matteo shook his head, leaning into me. 

“It’s okay, I’m right here with you. I’m not going anywhere,” he replied. 

The tears couldn’t stop flowing down my cheeks, even though I knew he was close to me. My head kept replaying the same scenario from today and how terrified I was if he tried to do anything to me, if he carried a knive or a gun 

That man wasn’t scared of anything. He was capable of hurting me regardless of where we were, not giving a single damn about other civilians. I could see it clearly in his eyes when he stared down at me, they were provoking and if he was trying to scare me, he succeeded. 

I grabbed onto Matteo’s arm before I leaned forward, resting my head on his shoulder. 

We stayed still in the same position for the next few minutes as an attempt to calm myself down. He never did stop rubbing onto my back and kissed my head because he knew, I needed him to be here with me. That was the most important thing. 

I was lucky to have married someone as considerate as him. 

I leaned back, looking into his eyes. 

“Do you think it was my fault?” I asked. 

“It wasn’t your fault, Alena. Why would you say that?” 

“Because I didn’t scream. I didn’t do anything.” 

“You were in shock. I don’t blame you,” 

“I know but if I had reacted differently, Igor could’ve attacked him and we would’ve solved this. We wouldn’t have to think about it anymore,” I replied as I wiped away the tears on my cheeks, trying to reason with myself. 

My husband reached out for my hands before he went to kiss them a few times. With every kiss he gave me, I felt more at ease and when I looked into his eyes, I somehow got lost in those beautiful brown eyes. 

“Alena… baby, you don’t have to worry about that. We’re always working hard to find him but our main priority right now is to make sure that you’re safe. I can’t lose you again. I won’t let you go through the things you did. It doesn’t matter if it would take months or years to find him, as long as you’re safe with me, I’d be at ease.” 

I frowned, “How can we move forward if we know he’s still out there? I feel like I’m being haunted wherever I go. I feel like he’s going to appear right in front of me and I’d freeze on the spot again,” 

“It’s okay. We’ll figure it out,” he responded.

“I know. I don’t have the answer to your questions. I haven’t slept well ever since,”

It was useless to keep on questioning the unknown. Matteo was just like me, someone who was clueless and trying his very best to figure things out. As much as I wanted him to come up with a different answer or provide a solution, he also needed a place to lean on. 

He had a lot of things to think about. One of the reasons why he had came home late every night because he was trying to solve this issue–he was busy at the office during the day and he went to gather with his men at night. I knew they were working hard to find him. 

Then, that bastard decided to show up in front of me just like that. 

“I’m sorry,” I muttered under my breath. 

“What are you sorry for, baby? Don’t be.” He replied, reaching out to caress my 

face. 

“For being such a trouble to you. Ever since we got married, all I’ve ever done was make you worry.” 

“Shh, no. No, don’t say that. Don’t ever think like that.” He went in to kiss the side of my cheek, “You’re my wife. You’re the woman in my heart. You’re the woman I love so much and I’d do anything for you, Alena. I’d do it a million times again even if I had to. I will never, ever blame you for what had happened. You’re the best thing in my life.” 

We stared at each other for a few seconds and I continued to get lost in his eyes. 

I closed the distance between us by leaning in to kiss his lips in which he kissed me back without hesitation. The kiss started off slow and steady until I decided to sit on his lap, making him hold me around my waist. I cupped onto his face to deepen the kiss and be in control. 

My heart was beating fast from excitement as he kissed my neck 

I looked at the door and saw that it was closed shut which meant the people from downstairs weren’t able to hear us–during passionate moments like this, I loved to enjoy myself and sometimes I forgot if I was being too loud. Hopefully, nobody came to interrupt us because that was going to be awkward.
