“There’s nothing going on between me and Blythe,” Silas finally explained to Calliope after thinking it over. “Those bunnies? They poop everywhere, that’s why I gave them to her. If they were anything special, I’d give them to you, not her.”

“Sure, she’s helped me out in the past, so I’ll help her if she needs it. But that’s all it is, just paying back an old favor. I don’t feel anything for her. Nothing at all.”

He looked Calliope straight in the eyes.

“Callie, you’re not jealous, are you? Don’t be. You’re the only one in my heart. This life, the next one, doesn’t matter. It’ll always be you.”

“I believe you.” Calliope smiled, her lips tugging upward. Sure, Blythe was pretty and had a lot going for her, but they were just childhood friends. So many years had passed, they were basically strangers now.

She trusted Silas completely. Besides, Blythe was hanging out with Oliver these days. Just that alone was enough to make Silas want to keep his distance.

Blythe burst into her room, cradling the two fluffy bunnies, absolutely delighted. She had no idea what Silas meant when he said, “They poop a lot.”

The second she set the bunnies down, they hopped right onto her shoes and peed all over them.
