When office hours were ending, Jackson texted Tiffany. “I’ve got a dinner to attend tonight so I can’t watch over you. Remember, don’t eat what you shouldn’t.”

Tiffany felt bewildered reading the text. Why was the man being so nice? It was as if the baby was his. A sense of frustration clawed at her as she went home after work without replying.

Upon arriving home, she found Lillian having fruits on the couch. “Tiffie, I don’t have any more cash. Auntie Renee invited me for mahjong tomorrow. Give me three hundred dollars.”

“Three hundred? Just sell me off, okay? Are you still eating? Still turning the AC on? You always lose but you keep going at it. I have nothing to say.” Tiffany changed out of her shoes and went back to her room.

Lillian’s face fell as she said in a louder tone, “If that’s the case, do you think Mark will thank me and offer me some reward if I tell him that Arianne is pregnant? I’ve got no choice but to ‘make’ money on my own if you refuse to give me some. Say, he’ll agree if I ask for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in exchange for a piece of helpful information to him, yeah?”

Tiffany barged out of her room when she heard the woman. “How dare you! Lillian Lane, I realize that you really can resort to anything for money! Have some dignity, will you! You’ve got no morals at all! If you dare do it, I’ll cut ties with you from now on! Go wherever you want. You’re completely able-bodied, you’re not sick, and you can keep yourself alive. The law can’t penalize me. You haven’t reached the stage of needing financial support!”

Lillian was relentless. “I haven’t stooped to that stage yet. However, if you don’t give me the money, I’ll definitely resort to that. Being poor is a disease, it makes one insane. I’ll do what I say, no matter what your opinion is.”
