"Just refuse," Felix said flatly.

"Alright. I'll follow your lead." Derek nodded.

...

In the car, Claire looked at the delicate crystal bottle in her hands with a mix of awe and confusion. "Honey, this vial looks expensive."

Derek glanced over. "I was thinking the same thing."

"But online rumors say Demi grew up poor and had to work instead of finishing middle school. How could she afford something this precious? And why would she just give it away?" Claire's frown deepened.

"Maybe her mentor gave it to her. If she's that skilled, her teacher must be extraordinary," Derek mused.

"Regardless, we have to bring a proper gift next time we see her. We showed up with mediocre seafood today and walked away with a priceless crystal bottle." Claire sighed.

"Agreed. Once Charles' midterm grades come out, we'll visit her with a more worthy gift," Derek said.

Ana was sitting frozen on the living room couch when the Pitts returned home.

At the sound of the door, she startled like a frightened rabbit. "D-Dad, Mom," she whispered.

Had Demi been there, she'd have rolled her eyes internally since Ana was acting again.

And she was. Though genuinely uneasy, Ana had meticulously rehearsed this fragile, wide-eyed performance.

"Have you eaten?" Michelle's heart clenched at the sight.

"No. I wanted to wait for you." Her voice trembled.

The incident had been unavoidable gossip. After all, Demi had confiscated Charles' prized "Brotherhood of the Iron Palm" manual.

"I see." Daniel nodded.

Harold frowned and asked, "But why would Mr. Fuller choose Demi out of all the students in class to supervise Charles? Her grades are terrible."

Ana hesitated, then recounted how Demi had gotten into fights on her first day and how the bullies targeting her had accidentally crossed Charles instead.

She painted every detail with venom—Demi's ruthless temper, her refusal to back down, and the way she even dared to disrespect their teachers.

"Maybe when Joseph and his gang went after Demi, they offended Charles too. Now, he sees her as some kind of ally," Ana mused.

Truthfully, she couldn't fathom it. How could someone like Demi—a violent person with nothing to offer—become friends with Charles?

The injustice of it clawed at Ana. She was beyond jealous.
