Sylvia looked at the old Evans with indifference. It had been a long time since she last saw him. She didn't have any feelings towards the Evans family, especially after learning the truth about her mother being kicked out of their family. Even though the old Evans looked frail and worn out, it didn't stir any emotions within her.
"I'm sorry, I'm busy today," Sylvia politely declined his invitation. "I've been swamped lately."
"Sylvia..." The old Evans' face showed a hint of disappointment, but he quickly added, "How about tomorrow? Or if not tomorrow, maybe the day after? You don't come back to Larro often... I really miss you!"
He gazed at Sylvia with longing eyes hoping that she would agree.
Just then Sylvia's phone rang; it was from the dean.
"Dr. Sylvia! Something's wrong! Professor Peterson is critically ill! You need to come over right away!"
"Professor Peterson?" Sylvia was taken aback as she turned around and headed towards the hospital in a hurry. "What happened? He was fine just recently..."
Professor Peterson was one of H Rovirsa's most famous orthopedic surgeons and pioneers in bone surgery; he was also an internationally renowned expert in hepatobiliary surgery who had already reached his nineties this year. How could he suddenly become so sick?
Sylvia couldn't spare any more time for the old Evans and hung up on him before rushing into the hospital.
The old Evans was startled by what just happened as he followed her with help from his butler.
"Sylvia, what's going on?" He asked worriedly.
"I might not have time to explain now," replied Sylvia hastily while running ahead of him like a whirlwind. "There is an important patient who needs my immediate attention for resuscitation."
"I heard her mention Professor Peterson..." The old Evan sighed heavily before glancing at Sylvia's retreating figure. "Oh well, let's head home first."
When Sylvia arrived at emergency room entrance, Professor Peterson lay unconscious on an operating table inside.
"How is he doing?" asked Sylvia anxiously .
"All organs are rapidly deteriorating," said Dean standing beside them, looking pale. Tears shimmered in his eyes.
"I'll try again!" Sylvia said as she began checking Professor Peterson's various indicators. "Even if there is a glimmer of hope, we should not give up."
However...
Half an hour passed.
An hour passed.
Two hours passed...
Sylvia was covered in sweat and exhausted, collapsing on the ground. She closed her eyes. "Announce it."
Tears streamed down her face as she thought about how little she had interacted with Professor Peterson. They only ever crossed paths during meetings.
But this old man was known for being approachable and treating his patients like family. They had exchanged a few words before, but Sylvia knew he was someone worthy of respect.
His noble character was renowned throughout the medical community. Many excellent orthopedic surgeons in hospitals today were once his students.
His achievements in medicine were unparalleled by anyone else.
As colleagues around them cried softly, Sylvia's eyes turned red too. She felt sad and overwhelmed by emotions that were difficult to describe.
She always admired these great people who worked for their country and its people - Professor Peterson was one such person who made significant contributions to society through his work in medicine.
He solved many difficult problems and diseases related to orthopedics that others could not solve.
The dean bowed deeply towards Professor Peterson before choking out. "Just three months ago, he performed surgery on a patient on the operating table... I never expected that three months later..."
"Let us all stand up and bid farewell to Professor Peterson!" Sylvia stood up from the floor then bowed deeply towards him.
"Professor Peterson, please rest well!"
Everyone in the emergency room bid farewell tearfully towards Professor Peterson.
The dean finally stood up wiping away tears before saying. "Notify his family members and superiors."
Sylvia's face turned pale almost transparently white; it was an indescribable pain.
A white cloth slowly covered Professor Peterson's body while several nurses pushed him out toward the door with a loud bang sound when they opened it; all of Professor Peterson's family members surrounded him along with some of his students asking questions such as.
"How is he doing?"
"How is his rescue going?"
"My teacher..."
The dean looked at them in grief, almost unable to face it. "Organ failure, we... are powerless."
Suddenly... a cry of mourning came from the emergency room door.
A few minutes later.
The whole country knew about this news.
All major media outlets, websites, various influential posters and internet celebrities, and stars...
"Hello? It's me. Sylvia," she said.
The Old Evans was originally in a very bad mood; Professor Peterson's departure made him feel even more crisis-ridden and oppressed than ever before. Sylvia was also very cold towards him which made him feel even worse. When he suddenly received Sylvia's call at this moment, he was stunned and somewhat incredulous. "Sylvia? You called me?"
"Don't you want to have dinner with me? How about tomorrow noon? You can choose the location," Sylvia's voice remained calm but with a hint of awkwardness.
"Really?" The Old Evans' face lit up with surprise. "Okay then! Let's go to Potroast! The environment there is good."
"Sure." After speaking briefly, Sylvia hung up the phone hastily.
Perhaps because Professor Peterson's death had touched her heartstrings or out of sympathy for the Old Evans' age; either way she decided that it wouldn't hurt just having one meal together after all.
The next day at noon time, Sylvia arrived directly at Potroast restaurant.
The environment there was indeed very good, quiet and elegant, whereupon entering one could see a small bridge over running water while faint music lingered in the air. The manager greeted her promptly upon seeing her arrival, "May I ask..."
"Room 1." Sylvia interrupted his words calmly.
"Okay okay please follow me."
The manager led her into Room 1, then left afterwards leaving only the Old Evans along with his steward inside.
Upon seeing that Sylvia had arrived, the old Evan's face broke into smile. "Sylvia, come sit quickly!"
As soon as Sylvia sat down, the door of private room opened again, and other members of Evan family walked in.
Eddie brought his daughter along. Tiffany's family were not present. Sylvia raised an eyebrow, Tiffany had long been abandoned by Evan family so it wasn't surprising that they weren't here today.
Alyssa and Eddie greeted Sylvia politely.
"Hey, Sylvia. When did you get back?" Alyssa asked.
"A few days ago," Sylvia replied with a calm expression. She took out a bottle of RL 133 and gave it to the old Evans. "Here, take this health supplement. Just one pill a week is enough."
"What is this stuff?" Alyssa asked curiously. "Can he eat it?"
"If he can't eat it, why would I give it to him? Would I harm him?" Sylvia raised an eyebrow and looked at the old Evans again. "It's good for your health, especially as you get older."
The old Evans smiled happily; he thought anything given by Sylvia was good for him.
"Sylvia, when are you coming back to inherit the family business? I've already announced that you're the heiress but you never come back," he said jokingly.
