Candy sighed, “As much as I hate to admit it, I think it’s the case.” 

She glanced at Chloe again.

She added, “Chloe, maybe we should stay out of this. He’s already returned, and Erik who hurt you is dead. This has nothing to do with us anymore, so why bother getting involved in the Clark family’s mess?” 

She had a point, and Chloe frowned, weighing the situation carefully. 

“Then the fact that Erik ordered someone to hurt Chloe–are we just going to let that go?” 

Things were getting more complicated, and if they dug deeper, she was sure they’d uncover even more unexpected secrets. 

“I can ignore Erik’s death, but I must find the person who hurt Chloe,” Michael said firmly. 

He knew well that if this person was bold enough to harm Chloe repeatedly, they wouldn’t hesitate to find another accomplice after their first failed.

Just then, Michael’s phone rang. It was one of the bodyguards from the hospital, reporting that the man they’d been holding had regained consciousness and was demanding to be discharged. 

Michael exchanged a glance with James. 

“I’m going with you,” Chloe declared, standing up. 

This time, she didn’t want to wait around for news. 

Michael was concerned about her pregnancy. “Chloe, stay home. If things get chaotic, I might not be able to protect you.” 

Chloe insisted, “I can protect myself.” 

Michael gave in and brought her along. Seeing that Chloe was going, Candy quickly jumped up. “I’m going too.” 

The four of them set off for the hospital together. 

When they arrived, the driver was cuffed to the bed. Earlier, he’d somehow managed to pick the lock with a paperclip. 

The bodyguard didn’t take his eyes off him, leaving no chance for an escape.
