Paul had already left, and Elizabeth lost interest in staying any longer. 

“I’m going home,” she said, tossing the words over her shoulder as she left Bryan standing there. 

Bryan looked after her, bewildered. He wanted to run after her, to ask what was wrong and offer to walk her home. However, as a student advisor, he had responsibilities at the event and couldn’t just leave. 

Elizabeth could come and go as she pleased, while he couldn’t. 

With a sigh, he started wondering. Despite being in a relationship, Elizabeth always seemed distant–so distant that he felt he’d never really understood her. 

They’d been together for some time now, but apart from holding hands, they hadn’t even kissed. He lowered his head, feeling a pang of disappointment. 

Just then, someone bumped into him. 

“Oh! I’m so sorry! Are you hurt?” Madison exclaimed, balancing a tray loaded with four or five desserts in one hand and a drink in the other. Some of her drink spilled, and she apologized repeatedly. 

“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Bryan reassured her while handing her a napkin. “Here, you spilled some of your drink.” 

“Thank you!” Madison reached for it but realized her hands were full. She looked around awkwardly. 

Noticing her dilemma, Bryan offered, “Want me to hold your tray?” 

“Are you sure?” 

“Of course,” he said, taking it from her. 

Once her hands were free, Madison wiped them clean and smiled sheepishly. “Sorry about that. I can be a 

bit clumsy…” 

Bryan smiled. “Not at all–it was my fault. I was too lost in thought and didn’t watch where I was going.” “To make it up to you, let me treat you to a dessert,” Madison offered, nudging the tray toward him. Bryan noticed a variety of treats on the plate. There were mango mousse, strawberry mille crepe, a Napoleon slice and many more. 

“Sounds good,” he replied, taking the strawberry mille crepe. Madison’s face instantly showed a hint of regret. 

“Everything alright?” Bryan asked, amused by her expressive face, which seemed to reveal her every thought. 

Madison shook her head. “Nothing. It’s just… the strawberry crepe is really good.” 

“You’ve tried it already?” 

Yup! I’ve eaten three.” 

Bryan was gobsmacked.

Madison smiled awkwardly. “No, no… just… I didn’t think you’d like strawberries. Lots of men hate it, so I figured you’d pick something else…” 

There was only one slice left! 

Bryan laughed. “I do like strawberries!” 

It had been a while since he’d eaten it, though. Elizabeth was allergic, so he’d mostly avoided it for her. Once, Sandy snuck him a tiny piece, saying, “Don’t worry, Lizzy won’t know.” 

Bryan had given in, thinking Elizabeth wouldn’t find out since she wasn’t at the lab that day. Still, she somehow figured it out and didn’t speak to him for three days. After that, he’d stopped eating strawberries altogether. 

But today… today, he felt like breaking the rules a bit. 

“I’ll take this one then, thanks!” he said while holding up the strawberry crepe. He was about to leave when 

“Is that the hidden mini dessert charm from Kim’s Collection?” Madison had been about to walk away when she spotted the tiny charm on Bryan’s phone. It was “Little Boba“, the rare piece she’d been trying to collect forever. 

She immediately grew excited. 

Madison had a bit of a compulsion when it came to blind boxes–she always had to complete the set, no matter the cost. She had most of this food–themed charm collection, but the elusive “Little Boba” had yet 

to show up. 

It was a rare find with almost impossible odds, and her luck hadn’t been on her side. She couldn’t hold back when she saw the charm hanging on Bryan’s phone.
