As for Hansel, Sam’s silence was equivalent to his admission. 

Furious, he slammed his palm onto the steering wheel. His car horn blared loudly, piercing through the still night. 

Someone immediately started yelling upstairs, “What the hell are you doing in the middle of the night? Are you looking for trouble?” 

The next moment, a bucket of water came sloshing down, landing on the roof of Hansel’s car. Sam had already turned and strode away at that point. 

Meanwhile, Paul was standing on the balcony. He had witnessed everything that had transpired between the two, including the scene earlier where Sam walked Miranda upstairs to her home. 

The biting cold wind and frost blew squarely in his face, yet Paul seemed oblivious to the cold. He stood there for over half an hour. He couldn’t name what he was feeling, but his chest felt tight, and his breathing unbearably heavy. 

His mind was racing with thoughts, yet it felt as though he wasn’t thinking about anything 

at all. 

Paul thought he could suppress his feelings for Miranda after receiving a straightforward reply that she wasn’t interested in dating and only wanted to focus on her studies the last time he tested the waters. 

He thought he could go back to just being a friend and staying by her side to watch her grow. He thought that would be enough. 

At that moment, Paul realized he overestimated himself. Some feelings would grow uncontrollably wild once they took root. 

He began to yearn for him to be the only man by her side, for her gaze to rest solely on him. He hoped that he could be the reason for her blooming smile and lasting happiness. 

If it was possible, he wished that Miranda could care for him the way he cared about her! 

These overwhelming thoughts reached their peak when he saw her step out of Sam’s car and walk into the building together, side by side. 

Paul let out a bitter laugh. This was the first time he realized even he could lose all sense of reason. It was more pathetic that he was the only person trapped in this web of unrequited feelings. 

Zach wasn’t faring much better under the same night sky and biting wind.
