“Mind having a chat?” Wyatt asked. 

Although Miranda felt puzzled, she maintained a smile on her face. “I don’t mind, but we don’t seem to be in the same academic field.” 

“Didn’t you say during your speech at the forum yesterday that the charm of research comes from interdisciplinary collaboration? I’m sure I didn’t mishear you, right?” 

“No, you didn’t,” she replied. 

Wyatt chuckled suddenly. “What you said was excellent. It left a deep impression on me.”

For some reason, Miranda felt uncomfortable when she heard Wyatt’s affected laugh. It sounded much better when it was Paul who laughed like that… 

“Ahem!” She redirected her gaze to Wyatt. “I’m sorry, Dr. Saberton. I’ve been out here for a while, so my mentor must be looking for me.” 

After saying that, she turned to leave. 

“Miranda!” Unexpectedly, Wyatt called out her name and asked, “Mentor? Who’s your mentor? Dr. Gardner? Dr. Leclair? Or is it… Dr. Jefferson?” 

The people he was referring to were Julian and Oscar. They were both part of Christine’s connections. 

Miranda furrowed her brow. “What do you mean by that?” 

“I saw it all,” Wyatt said with a smirk. 

Seeing Miranda’s puzzled look, he continued, “It seems that you got along quite well with them at Mystic Bistro last night.” 

His implication was crystal clear by the words he emphasized, combined with the ambiguous smirk on his face, 

Miranda’s gaze turned completely icy. “Dr. Saberton, please watch your words.” 

“Come on, stop pretending to be frigid. Isn’t your presence here today all thanks to them? I just didn’t expect them to be so generous about it.” 

As he spoke, Wyatt sized her up. “Then again, you’re young and beautiful. You’re a rare gem in the academic circle. Since none of us can have you exclusively, it might be a better choice to be generous. It’s a win–win for you too, isn’t it? Brilliant, truly brilliant!” 

He laughed once more at the end. 

At last, Miranda realized why his laughter grated on her ears. It was because he was a scumbag! “Dr. Saberton, you’d better clean that filthy mouth of yours.”

“Yes, I did,” Miranda said nonchalantly. 

Wyatt’s smile froze, and he clicked his tongue. He clearly didn’t believe her. 

Miranda pulled out a red invitation from her bag with a smile. Her name was prominently displayed as an invited guest when she opened the invitation. 

Wyatt’s frown tightened. “It’s impossible!” 

“Dr. Saberton, lying to yourself doesn’t solve problems. It only makes you look ignorant,” Miranda said.
