In the morning, soft sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the side of Miranda’s sleeping face. The edges of the curtains swayed in the breeze silently. 

Miranda was awakened by the sound of her phone ringing. She answered groggily, “Hello, Grandpa?” 

Aren’s voice came through. “Are you still sleeping? I’ll call you back later…” 

“It’s alright, I’m awake now. I’ve been resting at home lately and haven’t been going to the lab, so I just slept in for a bit. Is something the matter, Grandpa?” 

A sigh came from the other end before Aren started explaining. 

It turned out that his old friend had suffered a sudden heart attack the night before and couldn’t be saved in time. He was gone just like that. 

Aren had received a phone call that morning from the bereaved family, asking him to come over and help. 

He explained, “Mr. Chutney had passed away so swiftly without much suffering, but he left behind his widowed wife and young child. Since there was no one to take charge, they had no choice but to turn to me. I can’t refuse to help after decades of friendship. 

“However, your grandma needs to go to the Municipal Healing Center for her follow–up. Sam is on a business trip. After thinking it over, I can only feel reassured if you could accompany her…” 

“Grandpa, you’re being too formal about this,” Miranda replied, “It’s only right for me to accompany Grandma. There’s nothing troublesome about it. Go ahead and help your friend’s family. I’ll take care of Grandma.”

At 9:00 am, Miranda drove to the Garrison estate. 

Fiona had already gotten ready and was standing at the door with her bag in hand, waiting for Miranda. Aren was by her side, and the two of them were talking.

“Fine, I won’t say another word to him,” Fiona replied with a smile. “Have you had breakfast? There’s some ready at home. Mrs. Moore- 

“No need, I’ve already eaten. Let’s go, Grandma.” Miranda opened the car door and helped her in. Then, she turned to give Aren a reassuring look before walking to the driver’s seat. She started the engine and drove off. 

Fiona’s vision had improved significantly since undergoing acupuncture treatment, but she was still on medication, Regular follow–ups were necessary to adjust the prescription based on her progress.
