She blinked in surprise when she heard his open confession. “Why didn’t you just ask me about it back then? It was such a simple question and a couple of sentences would’ve cleared it up. Was it really worth sulking over a drink?” she asked with a smile. 

He sighed, “How could I ask when things aren’t even clear between us?” 

Miranda paused, then said with sincerity, “As friends, you can still care about my love life.‘ 

Paul responded, “I don’t care about your relationships with other guys, and I don’t just want to be your friend.” 

“You’re being greedy, Dr. Jefferson,” she teased. 

“Yeah, I guess I am. But luckily, fate decided to grant my wishes.” 

Miranda couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re a physicist, so you should believe in science. Since when did you start believing in fate?” 

Paul replied, “The end of science is theology. I didn’t believe it before, but I started to after meeting you.” 

“Dr. Jefferson.” She suddenly smiled and said, “You might as well be even greedier.” 

He was confused by her words. 

But she didn’t say more. She just smiled faintly and waved at him. “Come on, eat. The food’s getting cold.” 

After a while, they finished the dishes. 

Miranda was about to start cleaning up when Paul stopped her. 

“Go sit down and watch TV. I’ll handle this.” He didn’t even wait for her to agree before he took the dishes and carried them into the kitchen. 

She didn’t watch TV but followed him to the kitchen instead. Of course, she wasn’t going to help since he wouldn’t let her. 

Miranda just leaned against the counter. She smiled as she watched Paul clean, scrub the dishes, and tidy up the kitchen. He did everything methodically. 

He chuckled. “What’s so interesting?” 

She looked at his face and crossed her arm, smiling playfully. “It’s lovely and pleasant to the

After Paul was done cleaning the dishes, he turned off the kitchen light and led Miranda to the living room. They sat on the couch and watched TV. 

At that moment, he washed some strawberries and cherries, arranged them on a plate, and brought them to her. 

Miranda didn’t take it. She just smiled and said, “Feed me.” 

Paul froze for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.” 

She just opened her mouth and didn’t have to lift a finger. 

“You eat too.” She gestured to the plate. 

“Feed me,” he said. 

Miranda was dumbfounded. 

“Is that not okay?” Paul looked disappointed. 

She could almost see him sulking and quickly grabbed a strawberry. “Open your mouth.” 

He did as she asked, and the strawberry went right into his mouth. 

Her warm, soft fingers grazed his lips as the strawberry reached his mouth. It felt like a feather grazing his body, but it sent a shiver straight to his heart. 

Miranda asked, “Is it sweet?” 

Paul nodded. “Yes.” 

The juice burst from the strawberry, and its sweetness spread through his mouth. 

The plate had one strawberry left, and they both reached for it. Their hands brushed, and they froze. When their eyes met, the tension between them was undeniable.
