The moment I left them, my mind switched to work mode. I couldn’t sit around and do nothing. I also couldn’t keep waiting for Nyx to feed me breadcrumbs of information.

The first place I decided to make my stop was the library. I don’t know why, but it was the first place my brain urged me to go to. I wasn’t really expecting anything; after all, what could I find here that Raven and the elders couldn’t find? They had combed through the entire library, and they still got nothing of substance.

Walking through the hallways, my mind wandered to all the missing pieces. There was so much that we didn’t know of. So many unanswered questions. There was a lot going on that seemed bigger than us.

The question that has been nagging me, though, is where Nyx fits into all this. She has urged me to train harder since I first shifted. Always pushing me to grow stronger, become faster, and react quickly. Even now, since my powers awakened, it’s been the same thing.

She wouldn’t be pushing this hard if she were not preparing for something. Given everything that is currently happening, it all points towards her preparing for war. Seeing that her sister is making hybrids, it is safe to say that she is building an army. That she’s preparing for the same thing.

So the question remains, why are two sisters preparing for war against each other? Why would they want to hurt each other? They were twins for fuck's sake. It didn’t make any sense whatsoever. They should be closer than thieves, yet there was serious animosity between them.

And where is their mother?

Given how old I assume Nyx is, her mother should be dead, right? But the fact that Nyx and Xena are alive shows there is a possibility their mom is alive too. So where is she? And does she know anything about the ongoing beef between her daughters?

I push the door to the library once I get there. Lucky for me, it was empty and that suited me just fine.

I move along the rows of shelves and walk towards those that contain books that date way back. When I get there, I scan through them, picking up the ones that I feel might contain a sliver of answers.

By the time I am done, both my hands are full of books. I walk to one of the tables, drop them on the table and take a seat. I grabbed the first book and began reading, looking for any information or any kind of clue.

I’d gone through at least two books and I still hadn’t found anything. There wasn’t any information apart from the basic ones. How werewolves came to be. How this pack came to be. The different gods and goddesses. There was honestly nothing in those two books that I didn’t already know about.

I shut the book with a frustrated sigh and leaned back against my chair. There had to be something. Anything that could give me pointers.

Closing my eyes, I take a calming breath. I tried clearing my mind before I could dive back into the books, but the only thought that kept circling my mind was Xena and Kaden.

My eyes snapped wide open as a mixture of complicated feelings filled me. Rubbing my chest, I tried to ease the discomfort that was wreaking havoc inside me.

There was fear, hurt and betrayal. Those names, whether separately or together, brought those same emotions.
