Key: Alpha Of Aberdeen Chapter 29
‘Did this older woman just tell me that I have to be turned into a werewolf to stay alive.’ I repeat to myself, letting her words sink it. "What the hell! when is the next full moon?" I shout, facing Malachi. "In 7 days," he mutters, with his head hanging low. I stand from the table and start pacing around the room. Malachi comes to my side and I stop to meet his eyes. "Luna, everything will be okay. We can change you tonight or tomorrow if you need a day to rest." He tells me, pulling me close to him. I peer up at him, and can’t help but notice how handsome his face is, I just want to kiss him, but then I fight the trance his beautiful face has me in.
"NO! I don't want to be a wolf," I yell, watching his smile fade. "What do you mean? That is the only way for you to stay with us," He explains with a confused look. "I don't want to lose my humanity. That's what makes me who I am," I reason with tears falling down my cheeks. Malachi takes my hand and looks down at me. Our eyes connect, and I feel like all my worry disappears. "Luna, nothing will change you. Your wolf will only intensify what you already are." He states, looking at me like he is seeing deep into my soul, and I know he means every word.
I wrap my arms around his neck and jump up so he can catch me. "I believe you, Malachi. I’ll do anything for you and Paisley," I tell him, hugging him tightly. He smiles so big like a kid at a chocolate factory. "I missed you, Luna. I was so devastated." He whispers into my neck with so much heartbreak in his tone. All my memories of everything that happened before I died begin to wash over me, along with flashes of the afterlife.
Instead of the room, I’m in Malachi's office and I can see Malachi holding me in his arms, crying, and my sister is crying on my shoulder. But no matter what I try I can't move to comfort her. I try to reach out for her when my body jolts back to the present. Malachi gives me a bewildered look. "What's the matter, Luna?" he asks, staring with concern. I look around, and I'm back in the lady's cottage. "It's nothing," I say, looking around confused about what just happened.
"Let's go home, my wolfman," I say, grabbing Malachi's hand with a smile. He picks me up and turns to the older woman. "Thank you for bringing her back to me, Sukie," Malachi says with a sincere expression. They say nothing more to each other, and he walks out with me still in his arms.
We are in the car heading back to Aberdeen, but I'm not sure exactly where we are. I face Malachi and smile. "You saved me wolfman," I say, reaching for his hand. "I told you, in the beginning, I would do anything for you, Luna and that was the truth," He says, squeezing my hand. I bring his hand to my lips. "I love you, Malachi." I sigh happily. "I love you more than words can say," Malachi declares with a grin.
Malachi and I keep our hands together for the whole drive, both of us afraid of letting go. We pull into the packhouse, and I tremble at the thought of explaining to my family how I'm still alive. Malachi grabs for the handle, and I grab his arm to stop him from exiting the car. "How am I going to tell my family about this?" I stare at Malachi with worry. "Chloe, they just witnessed a yard full of werewolves fighting. I don't think they can get much more surprised than that," Malachi reassures me before he gets out of the car, walking over to my door to open it for me. taking my hand helping me out and wrapping his strong arm around me, guiding me to the front door.
Malachi opens the door as we walk in and I see my whole family sitting in the living area, along with Amelia and Paul. Everyone is expressionless and no one is saying a word. The atmosphere is so thick with grief I can barely breathe. They all turn when they hear the click of the door closing and, in an instant, they rise to their feet with their eyes wide with confusion. "Chloe ho..." Marley tries to ask but loses her words as if she’s wondering if she’s gone crazy. I walk to her and take her hands in mine, so she knows I’m there. "I'm back Mar, and I will never leave you again," I promise her with a smile. "But you died! Right in front of me! How are you here right now?" Marley questions with a bewildered look on her face as she searches my features.
"It's complicated," I sheepishly admit, not able to keep her eye contact. "Chloe, you need to tell me what's going on right now. I have seen some things in the last two days that no one has ever seen in their lifetime." She exclaims with shock on her face, so I take a deep breath. "Well, my fiancé is a werewolf, and so is my best friend" I say, pointing to Amelia who’s standing close by. I can tell by the look on Amelia’s face she’s struggling to keep her composure and is itching to run over to me. I smile at my friend and hold out my hands to let her know it's me, and she can. Amelia runs to me so fast and picks me up into a tight hug.
Amelia lets me down and grabs my face and peers into my eyes like she’s trying to figure out if my soul is still intact. "It's me, Amelia. I promise," I tell her, pulling her in for another hug, but when I look at Marley, I see she’s frowning at me. "I'm alive. Can we leave it at that, please" I beg her and feel relief when she nods with a smile. “Where is Paisley?" I ask, noticing she’s not in the room with everyone. "Cypress has her up in the nursery," Marley answers and I don't wait another moment. I rush upstairs, taking them two at a time like I have a newfound energy. I walk into the nursery and stop when I see Cypress rocking in the glider with Paisley in his arms.
