MADELEINE
I had gotten a short nap when I woke up, but I felt more awake now. So I stood up and walked downstairs to get something to drink. Mom was there, but Blaise was nowhere to be seen. Maybe he was in his room or had gone for a walk.
“Hey, mom,” I say, hugging her, and she hugs me back.
“Hey, sweetheart. The doctor's assistant is up in Juliette’s room. Just keeping track of how she was doing after the travel and all that.” Mom said, and I smiled.
Nicely done, Gina, I am thinking to myself. To say it is to check up on Juliette so no one gets suspicious.
“That is nice of her. I will go up there and see what she says.” I say and smile.
“Okay. Just dong disturb her work.” Mom says.
“I won’t, I promise,” I say and walk upstairs.
I carefully open the door and see Gina jumping from the bed. But she relaxes when she sees it is me and sits down next to Juliette again. I saw the change as soon she sat next to her. For a second, her eyes showed signs of life again.
“She can feel you,” I say.
“I think so. She looks less like a zombie right now.” Gina says as she softly caresses Juliette’s hair.
I sit down next to them, and I see how Juliette's eyes look more and more like themselves as time goes. Gina carefully caressed her face, and I was surprised when a small smile showed on Juliette’s face.
“It is working,” I whisper as I still see Juliette look more and more awake.
I was shocked when she turned her head towards the sound of my voice. But I knew one thing, this was because of Gina.
“Don’t stop, please.” I bag her, and she doesn’t.
She leans her head down to Juliette, resting her forehead on hers, and whispers so low I can barely hear her, but I did hear.
“I know you are in pain, and I know the pain you feel. My pain never disappeared, not before I met you. I know your pain is bigger than mine because you lost more than I did. But I promise I will always be by your side and not leave you for many, many years. Juliette, come back to me, please. I need you.” Gina whispers softly, and I see a tear leave her eyes.
