NOAH

Enzo and I are stepping into The Dark Forest Pack territory, and it’s my first time here. Dad had been here a few times over the years, but I had never been with him. Mom had not been back since she had fled from here with Uncle Matt and my grandpa. I asked Dad about it, and he told me Mom had too many bad memories.

“King Noah And Beta Enzo. Welcome to The Dark Forest Pack.” Alpha Carter says as he meets us outside what I assume is the packhouse.

“Thank you, Alpha Carter,” I answer.

“It is an honor to have you both here. Your rooms for the night are ready. And I will show you the bag containing the books and scrolls.” Alpha Carter tells me as we are on the Alpha floor of the packhouse.

“That sounds good, thank you, Alpha. We appreciate the corporation and help.” I tell him, and he bows.

“The last thing I want to happen is something like what happened to your mother’s family. Back then, I did not have the power to help. But I do now, and I swore that I would not let my father’s way of rule become mine.” Alpha Carter says, and I nod my head.

“I know, and Dad and Mom consider you to be a friend. A well-respected friend. I am here to protect my mate from having to live in fear, and maybe the scrolls can help her, too.” I tell him.

“If she can, I am happy to know they will be used for something good,” Carter says as he shows me the door to the room that is mine for the night.

“My daughter is not here at the moment. She is traveling to visit some of the packs we have an alliance with. Looking for her mate.” He explains, and I nod my head in understanding.

“It is all good. I wish her good luck,” I say and smile.

Alpha Carter bows, and I go into the room where I am staying for the night. Alpha Carter had not had it easy, and his mate died giving birth to their only child, their daughter. He had raised her on his own, refusing to take a chosen mate. It had also raised questions about who would take over when he stepped down as alpha.

He had raised a request to Dad about letting his daughter take over if she wished to. After long talks and consideration, Dad gave his approval. Many Alphas had not been happy about it, but Dad didn’t care about that. He said as long she could protect their pack, he saw no problem with letting her rule. And he reminded them about that Mom had beaten several of the Alphas in the tournaments. And that our race's creator was a woman as well.

Enzo mindlinked me shortly before the dinner was being served, and I left the room to meet him. We walked down the stairs in the packhouse, and wolves curiously looked at us.
