NOAH

My Mom is gone. She used the one power of hers that everyone knew would be deathly to her: to save me.

It has been four days since the attack. The entire pack had been busy cleaning up and burning the dead rouges. But also, taking care of our injured warriors, against all odds, we did not lose many. Only elven warriors didn’t survive, and six vampires died, but Vladimir said they all knew the risk. They had stayed and helped where they could, and it showed how strong an alliance we had.

Madeleine had been in bed for the first two days. The amount of strength she had used had drained her. She felt terrible about Mom and that she hadn’t been strong enough to save on her own. She had refused to leave our apartment since, saying she couldn’t days Dad right now.

Dad didn’t blame her at all. He was devastated by the loss of Mom. But he said that at that moment, he knew it would happen. Mom would never have let any of us die, even if it would cost her her life.

Her funeral is today, and I hear the front door open and see Dad come in. He looks at me, and I point to the bathroom where Madeleine is. We waited, and when the door opened and she came out, she froze when she saw Dad was there.

“Son, let me talk to Madeleine alone, just for a few minutes,” Dad says, and I nod my head and leave to go to the royal cemetery.

Noah had left, leaving me alone with Logan. I couldn’t look at him. Shame if not being able to save Noah, which led to Olivia’s death, was eating me up. So I kept my eyes on the ground, afraid of seeing grief or, even worse, anger and hatred.

I am surprised when two strong arms pull me into a hug, and that’s where I can no longer hold back. I start crying, tears running down my face, while Logan gently holds me, whispering soothing words.

When I calmed down, he softly guided me to sit down, and he sat across from me. I finally looked into his eyes.

“Madeleine, I want to tell you something that no one has ever been told. Something only Oliva and I knew.” He says, and I nod my head.
