Chapter 40 Despair 

“Why? I told you I would take you home. Don’t you live here?” 

“I thought you would take me to yours.” 

I shook my head. 

“Gemma, I told you. I need to take care of some business, and I will probably be out all night.” 

She looked at me, frowning. 

“Is it about another woman?” 

1 laughed. Actually, she was right, but she had nothing to do with that, as I always told her I didn’t want a relationship. But this time I didn’t argue with her, as I needed her. 

“Gemma, don’t think too much.” 

“Then why can’t I stay in your house?” 

1 took a deep breath. 

“Gemma, do you remember what I told you when we started this all?” 

I could see she swallowed, and she lowered her head. 

“I know Gideon, but we are together happily. I understand you, and you know me well. We are good together.” 

“Most of the time, yes, but you didn’t let me breathe lately. I need a break.” 

Her face changed to an angry one. 

“I’m sorry, but do I remember correctly you got married to another woman lately?” 

“Do I remember correctly I told you the reason?” 

“You can’t be serious.” 

“I am. I’ll contact you soon, but if you want to continue with me, then give me a break.”

Her eyes became teary, and when the first tear rolled down on her cheek, I felt the usual anger.

“Call everyone, Sam. We must find her before Riccardo does.” 

I knew I wouldn’t be enough to do this alone, so this time I didn’t care who thinks what. After I hung up on S In two seconds.

“Seth, Alice has disappeared.” 

I couldn’t hide the panic from my voice, but after a sigh, he answered.

I shouted at the phone in panic. He remained quiet for a few seconds before he answered. 

“Meet me in the town at the usual place. I’ll be there in five minutes. I’ll call the guys.”

“Thank you.” I told him with a bit of relief. After I turned the engine on and I drove to the meeting place. I was only a few minutes from there, but I didn’t care about any speed limits. 

I arrived there at the same time as Seth. He’s got into my car. 

“Where should we go first?” I asked him. He looked at me and frowned. 

“Seth.” I shouted at him impatiently. 

“Okay, Gid, first, calm down.”

“Okay, Last time she went to the bus station, I don’t think she’d go there again.” 

I looked at him with a sudden move.

I looked at him for a second. 

“Why do you think I would hurt her? I would never hurt a woman physically.” 

“Really? Then what the hell did Gemma talk about today?” 

I made a face and shook my head. 

“Seth, I didn’t touch Alice. I only told Gemma that I did, because this was that she wanted to hear.” 

He stared at me for a few seconds, like he wanted to read my face. 

“Gideon, would you explain to me what the fuk are you doing?” 

After taking a deep breath, I looked up and sighed. I thought there was no point in hiding anything fin

“1 started this madness, and I was confident about my plan, but Alice came into my life. I got to know about her more, and i just couldn’t do that to her.

Gemma hated her from the beginning, which I couldn’t blame her for, but she’s gone too far. Since Alice is here, Gemma literally stuck to me, and she is so fu*king annoying, I can’t stand her anymore. She kept provoking Alice disgustingly, and I just got to finish that. To defend Alice, I showed up with

I could see Seth holding his head while I was talking. 

“You know Gid, I always knew that you are an idiot, but to face with that you are truly an idiot makes me say that you are a fu’king idiot. Did you seriously believe that your plan was going to work? What do you think? What is Riccardo going to do? You showed up with Alice first, then you were with Gemma in public. Don’t you think he is only laughing at you while he is planning to take both of them?” 

I couldn’t answer that. I had to admit that he was right. 

We arrived at the train station, and I parked my car. I exhaled. I thought the best way was, if I was honest with him. 

Seth, I know what I did was wrong and stupid. I used to be a terrible person and I might still be, but I’m sure about one thing. Alice changed me. I think I fell for her. I couldn’t take that if they would harm her. So please help me.” 

When I said I fell for her, he looked at me with a sudden move, and I saw he tried to read my face again. Probably he saw I was honest, because his face showed some kind of understanding. 

“Don’t worry Gideon, we’ll find her.” 

I nodded nervously. We both left the car, and we held our guns under our jackets. When we arrived at a corner, we both pulled back, as we could see many guys in suits. My heart ached to realise that they were Riccardo’s guys. 

“Gid, I think we should split.” I nodded while I put my bluetooth earbuds into my ear, and I rang him. He put his earbuds in his ear, too, and he received my call.“Okay, we stay in contact.” I nodded, and we both went in a different direction. I could see ours as well all around. As I walked closer to the entrance, I saw a familiar figure come out of the station. My heart pounded faster when I recognised her, but the fear also hit me. I saw Riccardo’s guys followed her. 

“Seth, she is…” 

“I can see her too. We follow them. I’m going to disconnect the call and ring our guys.” 

“Okay.”

I pulled my hoodie up, and I walked with the crowd, keeping my eyes on her. She looked back, and she started to run. I noticed the alley just a few steps away from her. I knew they were waiting for her there. When I saw Seth walking there too, I ran as fast as I could to get behind them. I reached the end of the alley. Thank God it wasn’t too long. I saw him waiting for her. That was Carlo, Riccardo’s first entrusted guy. 

I approached slowly, holding my gun, and it was painful to see he caught Alice. She tried to get free, and she tried to shout, but Carlo was much stronger than her. The only reason I didn’t shoot was Alice was too close to him.
