Chapter 109 Why Should I Believe Your One-Sided Statement? novel Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
There was love in Leah’s eyes. It was as if she was looking at him hungrily. She said softly, “I don’t know what she’s thinking. However, I can tell you that this is not the first time I saw them together. Plus, as I said before, I have no reason to falsely accuse my best friend and brother.”
“Heh!” Charles chuckled coldly. He could feel his annoyance coursing through his limbs. Now, every cell of his body was agitated. It felt like he was being sliced by a knife and burnt by fire. He was in excruciating pain. “Why should I believe your one-sided statement?”
Leah sighed. “Charles, even if I made all that up, how are you going to explain what you saw?”
She laughed bitterly and said in self-mockery, “Am I a witch who can control Sophia into manipulating my brother?”
It was already October. Although it was not hot, beads of sweat started to roll down from Charles’ forehead.
He undid the button on his sleeves and rolled up his sleeves. Veins were protruding from his nice-looking arms. They looked terrifying.
Leah had never seen him show his emotions like this before. When she saw him reacting like that to Sophia’s incident, she felt extremely bitter. “I don’t plan to tell you all these, but you’re getting engaged to Sophia tomorrow. I only decided to tell you after hesitating.”
She sighed again. There was helplessness on her face. “I really don’t want to see you being lied to. I don’t want to hear other people saying that my best friend is an unrestrained woman and my brother is a homewrecker. I feel sad to have to tell you the truth as well.”
“Don’t tell anyone about this,” Charles said with his expressions tense. He got into the car in a dazed state and started the car to get away from the Jones’ Manor.
Leah watched the car disappear from her vision. Her expression looked complex and bitter.
Charles kept saying that he did not like Sophia. He just agreed to this marriage because of the advantages. However, based on his reaction today, it was obvious he had already fallen for her without him knowing.
One would say a few hours would pass very fast. However, Charles had never been this tormented.
After he got out of Jones’ Manor, he went to the office. The finance manager came over to report the monthly report to him. He could not hear anything. The secretary brought over the documents that needed his signature, and he signed at the wrong spot on two to three documents. He even signed Sophia’s name on one of them.
His performance was greatly affected, so he left the office. Before he got out of the car, he tossed the rings he bought in the afternoon into the bin. Then, he drove away.
When he got to the traffic light, he frowned. After that, he turned the steering wheel and got back to the office.
The janitor of the office was sorting the rubbish. The rubbish in the bin in front of the office had been packed and sorted.
Charles sat on the driver’s seat. His long and lean fingers were holding onto the steering wheel.
His eyes were on the janitor. He got up and then sat down again. He repeated the same motions a few times. When the janitor was about to leave, he got out of the car with a dark expression on his face and stopped the janitor.
“Are you Mr. Harris?” The janitor’s yellowed eyes looked at him for a while. There were shock and surprise on his aged face.
Charles grunted a reply. “Please wait.”
He frowned and took out the bag of trash from the bottom of the truck while holding his breath. He took out the ring boxes while bracing the smell of the trash.
“Thank you.” Charles tied the rubbish bag again and threw it back into the truck. Then, under the shocked and confused gaze of the janitor, he got back into his car hurriedly.
Some beverages from one of the bags had spilled onto his suit. The sour and rancid smell mixed with the sweet smell of the beverage was enough to make one nauseous.
Charles removed his suit jacket and threw it onto the backseat. Then, he rolled down all of the windows.
A gust of wind blew into the car. The smell of grass and wood cleared the nasty smell in the car. However, the fire of frustration in Charles’ heart was burning stronger than ever.
He slammed his fist down on the steering wheel. His handsome face looked extremely dark and terrifying.
