After hearing what he said, Charles lowered his gaze and stared at Sterling, releasing his hand and taking a step back. He did not say a word, but his reaction had already made it plain and clear.
"You... still refuse to let Soph go?" Sterling held onto Nicole's hand for support and stood up with great difficulty. The strands of blood in his eyes were almost turning into blood and flowing out of his eyes. "Harris, are you only going to let Soph go after you kill her?"
He struggled to move forward but was stopped by Nicole due to the inconvenience brought by his arm and leg that were encased in plaster.
Charles scrunched up his fingers slightly. It felt as though his heart was being clenched in a huge invisible hand. He was suffocating so much that every breath he took required strenuous effort.
He licked his slightly dry lips. “This is a matter between her and me. We will handle it well."
Sterling's sanity vanished without a trace at his words. "Handle it well my *ss! Charles, you think I can't do anything to you just because you’re a member of the Harris family?"
He and Nicole had dashed out of his ward in a hurry. The latter was peeling apples at that time and had no time to put down the fruit knife.
He snatched the fruit knife from her with a fierce look on his face. Amidst her screams, he hopped and bounced toward Charles, aiming the knife at Charles' abdomen.
"I'll ask you one more time, are you going to let Soph go or not?" Sterling glared at Charles whilst gnawing his teeth, squeezing every single word out of his throat. "Think before you answer!"
As he said those words, he pushed the knife further. The sharp end had pierced through Charles' white blouse.
"Quit messing around, Sterling!" Before Charles could answer, Nicole yelled at him as cold sweat seeped out of her forehead. "Put the knife down. Doing this won’t help Soph in any way—you’ll only make it worse!"
Sterling remained unmoved. He was simply glaring at Charles. The whites of his eyeballs were completely bloodshot now. "I won’t! If he doesn't give me his word, then I will kill him with a single slash. If the worst comes to the worst, I’ll just go to prison!"
The sweat on Nicole's head was constantly seeping out. She wiped the cold sweat off of her head and was about to talk some sense into Sterling when Charles was one step ahead of her.
"This is a matter between Sophia and me. We will handle it well." The sharp fruit knife fitted onto Charles’ bare skin without a single barrier in between. He could feel an ice-cold temperature passing through the knife. If it went a little deeper, then he might die on the spot just like that. Even so, he did not even blink.
Sterling was triggered by Charles’ calm demeanor as well as his answer. He was gasping heavily with crimson eyes, tears streaming down his ferocious yet good-looking face. "Charles Harris!"
He screamed and the knife pierced into Charles’ abdomen along with his scream, releasing an extremely soft, muffled sound.
Charles stood still. Blood gushed out his wound along the hilt, staining his white shirt instantaneously. It was slightly painful and uncomfortable, but he remained rooted to the same spot, glancing at his wound with an indifferent look on his face.
"Are you insane, Sterling?!" Nicole rushed over and stood between the two, grabbing the fruit knife with trembling hands. Blood completely drained from her face. “Hurry up and let go…”
Her voice was weak.
"Never!" Hatred and pain were written all over Sterling’s good-looking face. His tears fell on his blood-stained hands and mixed with the blood immediately. "Nicole, I have to say sorry to you and the kids, but I really can’t bear to see… I can’t bear to see Soph so… So..."
‘I can’t bear to see Soph living in so much pain and hardships.’ His throat tightened. He could not bring himself to utter this sentence.
