”Let’s go.” Charles ignored her negative attitude and removed her hand easily. “You’ll push the wheelchair.”

Sophia stood still, unmoving. She was merely looking straight at him. “Must it be like this?”

“Sophia, I’m running out of patience.” Charles swirled champagne in his glass and took a sip. His Adam’s apple was incredibly sexy, and it attracted the gaze of many female guests.

However, to Sophia, no matter how sexy he looked, he was still a devil. She, a cricket, in the presence of a devil, had no choice but to obey his orders.

Lowering her head, she laughed at herself as she walked resignedly to the back of the wheelchair.

She and Leah were as different as the sky and the ground in Charles Harris’ heart. Why had she thought that he would listen to her?

“Let my brother do it.” The depths of Leah’s eyes were filled with jealousy and hatred, yet worry was written all over her face. “Sophia is already being looked down upon because she’s wearing a janitor’s uniform here. If she pushes my wheelchair for me, people might think that she’s my maid.”

“She doesn't even care, so why do you bother?” William said coldly before he walked away.

“Then I’ll have to trouble you, Sophia.” Leah smiled warmly. “Just follow my brother. My parents are in front.

“Aren’t you tired of acting like this every day?” Sophia pushed the wheelchair forward as she spoke tauntingly.

Leah looked surprised as well as a little innocent and confused. “Acting? Why don’t I understand what you’re talking about?”

Disgusted by her, Sophia pursed her lips and did not speak again. She quietly pushed the wheelchair as she followed William.

In a short while, they reached where Leah and William’s parents were.

Sophia had just stopped walking when she was pushed away by Madam Jones. Madam Jones had an ugly expression on her face.

Madam Jones was very strong, and Sophia, who was caught unexpected, stumbled. Her body thudded into the table behind her.

Chirk!

The table scratched against the floor with a screeching sound. The wine and food atop it scattered all across the floor.

Falling to the ground, Sophia felt a pain in her tailbone. She bit her lip as a thin layer of sweat appeared across her forehead.

Upon seeing this, Charles’ eyebrows furrowed almost imperceptibly. He took a step forward but soon retreated. He watched indifferently.

“Leah, are you alright?” Madam Jones looked Leah up and down, not hiding the worry on her face. “Why is this murderer with you? Did she hurt you?”

“Mom, don’t talk about Sophia like that. She used to be my best friend.” Leah wrinkled her elegant eyebrows, seemingly a little upset.

“You treat her as your friend, but what does she treat you as?” Madam Jones choked up. “Back then, if we had not rescued you in time, who knows whether you… would still be in this world or not.”

The commotion over there was so large that countless people were now looking over, pointing to Sophia who was sitting on the floor.

“Isn’t she supposed to be in jail for attempted murder? Why is she here?”

“Miss Jones was kind enough not to charge her with attempted murder because of their friendship. She only had to do two years of prison before being released.”

“Miss Jones is so kind. Other people are already trying to kill her, but she still holds on to old relationships.”

“How could the guard let her in? Who’s going to ensure that our lives will be safe?”

Sitting on the floor, Sophia bit on her lip, unwilling to let go. Even if the flaps of her lips tore and the taste of blood spread in her mouth, she would not let go.
