Madam Johnson was clearly and definitely asking Sophia the question. If she gave the wrong answer, or if she did answer at all, she did not know what she was supposed to do or say.

"I’m sorry, Madam Johnson. Even an upright official finds it hard to settle a family quarrel. Sophia is in no position to judge who is right and who is wrong. As her elder, you shouldn’t be making things difficult for her." Charles walked over and put his arm around Sophia's waist.

Yvette laughed as well. "How can you say that Madam Johnson is making things difficult for Soph, Charles? She’s Jen’s best friend, she will never make things difficult for Soph."

"You’re right, Mom. It was a slip of the tongue on my part." Charles said, "Forgive me, Madam Johnson."

Madam Johnson was very much displeased with what they said, but in the end, she simply harrumphed twice and said reluctantly that it was okay, then proceeded to quarrel with Clara again.

Fredrickson was only frowning at first but later lost his patience. "Shut up, all of you!"

"I didn’t want to start an argument either, but they have certainly gone too far!" Madam Johnson babbled. "They have taken all the advantages but won’t stop criticizing me now. Do you think I can stomach this…"

Fredrickson cut her off abruptly and curtly. "I told you to shut up. Can’t you understand the human language?"

Sophia sighed secretly. Fredrickson was a person with a terrible temper indeed.

Taking in her reaction, Charles whispered something to Fredrickson, then pulled her hand and took her out of the room. Yvette was right next to them. Seeing that they were now much closer than before, she was slightly surprised at first but felt somewhat relieved afterward.

Unlike Sophia, who was being defended everywhere she went, this was the most tormenting party Leah had ever attended since she was born.

The Joneses and Lewises did not want her to attend, hence she had resorted to other means to get the invitation.

The Russells had an extraordinary status. The guests attending the party were wealthy or respectable people. It would be hugely beneficial for her to attend, hence she would never pass up this opportunity.

She had been encountering unpleasant things one after another lately and figured that the party might be the start of a change of fortune for her.

Leah deliberately avoided the Joneses and Lewises, though when she caught sight of William, she had no worries at all in this regard.

William had been taking care of her since childhood. Although he was now opposed to her, she believed that he was just momentarily blinded by his obsession!

"Brother, Audrey." She went forward with a wine glass in her hand to greet them with a smile.

Audrey was not as cordial toward her as she used to anymore and simply nodded casually, not bothering to even exchange pleasantries with her.

"Don't call me Brother. I don't have a sister like you who sets people up all the time." William looked at her the same way he looked at Sophia in the past.

Having said that, he walked past her straight away and went in another direction.

The disgust in his eyes was like a basin of cold water, drenching Leah from head to toe. She took his arm and said in a soft tone, "William, I have already admitted to my mistakes, so why can't you forgive me?"

William pulled her hand away. She refused to let go, hence he pulled off her fingers one by one.

Audrey did not intervene in the siblings’ affairs, though she was happy to watch all of this unfold.

Leah, for the most part, was so capable that she was almost completely in control of the whole company. Furthermore, the Joneses seemed to hold her in high regard that William had almost no voice in the company.

Now that the siblings had fallen out and Master Harris showing his support for William publicly, the company would most likely fall into his hands in the future. After both their families were united through marriage, the Sommer family would naturally receive more benefits than what was previously estimated.
