Charles stretched out his hand to catch the glass and shielded Sophia behind him.

"Get out! Get out right now!"

Jenny's gut-wrenching screams rang out in the room.

Sophia's heart was pounding rapidly, wanting to step forward to see what was going on. As soon as she took a step, however, Charles held onto her. "Stand here and don't move. I'll go and take a look."

"Mm." Sophia nodded.

At almost the same time Charles had reached to the door, Madam Johnson was being shoved out of the room by Jenny.

"Leave! From now on, I don’t have a friend like you! Don’t ever appear in front of me again!" Jenny's eyes were red. With a bang, the door was shut.

There were several nail scratches on Madam Johnson’s face. She kicked the door abruptly and roared with bloodshot eyes, "Don't you think you are too biased, Jenny? I treat you better than her, but why do you only put yourself in her shoes no matter what happens and never consider the problems from my standpoint?"

There was only silence on the inside.

Madam Johnson raised her voice. "Jenny, don't pretend like you’re deaf! Be honest with me, we have been friends for decades, are you going to give up on our friendship for a dead person?!”

"Get lost!" Jenny roared while she cried. Then, there was a sound of a heavy object slamming into the door.

Upon hearing what she said, Madam Johnson's face alternated between blue and white. She wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, stomped her foot on the ground, and walked to Sophia's side.

Sophia had never imagined that things would turn out this way. The uneasiness she felt in her heart intensified.

"I have no idea what your mother is… is thinking about! Tell her that if she doesn't want me as a friend, then I won’t care either!" Madam Johnson said, choking with sobs before grabbing her purse and storming away.

Sophia was stunned for a moment before walking towards the room and knocking on the door. "Mom?"

There was no response.

"Mom?" Sophia knocked on the door again.

There was still no response.

Charles took her hand and comforted her. "Don't think too much."

"She is suffering from a relapse in depression again and is taking her medicine in secret." Sophia panicked. "I invited Madam Johnson over to ease her anxiety, but…"

She did not continue but went around Charles and walked downstairs, asking a few servants to keep watch downstairs and inform her immediately if there was anything unusual.

Then, Sophia asked a servant for Jenny's room key and went upstairs again.

"What's going on? Who was Mom arguing with just now?" Nicole walked out after comforting the children.

Sophia summarized the incident to her and said with a frown, "I knocked on the door several times but Mom didn't respond."

"Don't be too sensitive." Nicole said, "You may not like to hear this, but before Mom was even diagnosed with depression, she has been the kind of person who would always take things too hard when things happen. Her condition right now is just relatively serious but definitely not as bad as what you might think."

Sophia hummed in response, but her brows were still furrowed.

She could not stop herself from feeling uneasy. It felt as though something bad was about to happen.

Nicole glanced at Charles.

"If you are still worried then I will get a doctor here to perform a medical examination for Madam White." Charles brushed Sophia's nose. "You are pregnant, that’s why you think too much when something happens."

Nicole echoed, "I worried a lot when I was pregnant too. If your brother came home just a little late, I would start thinking if he was cheating on me or if he had met with a car accident on the road."

Though that was what they both said, Sophia was still slightly skeptical. Was she really thinking too much?

Despite that, she said, "I think I better talk to Mom so I will feel more at ease."

Nicole nodded and knocked on the door. "Mom, can you open the door? Jenna is crying and insists on seeing you!"
