Sophia glanced at Charles who was standing beside her. “There has been too much negative press on White family recently so I don’t dare to even go out. I’m at home now and Charles is at work.”

“Okay,” Nicole said, “Come over then, I have something to tell you.”

Sophia’s grip around her phone tightened. “Why can’t you just tell me over the phone?”

“I don’t think it’s something to talk about over the phone, just come over and we’ll talk,” Nicole replied.

Worried that she would arouse Nicole’s suspicions, Sophia simply said she would go over and ended the call.

“I still don’t know what Nicole is up to.” With both hands on her shoulders, Charles turned her to face him. “I don’t think you should be alone with her.”

Sophia understood his worries as well. “I need to find out what Nicole is trying to do so I have to go.”

“I’ll have someone look into this matter, it’s too risky for you,” Charles said.

He had always been confident and certain in the things he did but ever since he fell in love with Sophia, things had changed.

Seeing that they were still unaware of the full picture, he was not going to let Sophia take the risk and put herself in a dangerous situation.

Sophia shrugged his hands off and said in a stern voice, “Charles, I don’t need you to protect me all the time.”

Her eyes were determined and Charles knew that she had no intention of changing her mind. He took a step backward. “Text me every fifteen minutes. If I don’t get a text on time, I’m going over right away.”

Sophia wanted to argue but before she could speak, Charles continued, “That’s my only request.”

Charles drove Sophia to the White family’s manor. Worried that Nicole would catch sight of Charles’s car, she had him drop her off about two kilometers away from the manor.

“Nicole wouldn’t do anything to me in the house, Charles, you don’t have to come with me,” Sophia told Charles repeatedly before finally getting out of the car. With a heavy heart, she set off toward the White family manor.

When she got to the manor, Nicole was already waiting by the door.

“Did you walk here? Aren’t you cold?” Nicole looked around behind her and asked casually.

Sophia returned a smile. “I took a taxi here. I suddenly realized that I haven’t been around here much ever since I was in prison for two years so I got off earlier to walk around.”

Perhaps it was because she felt overly conscious now, she thought that her sister-in-law’s question was not as genuine and simple as it was supposed to be.

Nicole nodded and pulled her hand as she brought her into the house. “Your brother told me once that you hate the cold. You must be frozen after the long walk, come on it and I’ll get you a cup of hot tea.”

Sophia lowered her head and walked beside her quietly, a thousand thoughts rushing through her head.

No matter how well her brother treated her, he was nowhere as thoughtful as Nicole. She had long considered Nicole as a blood relative but at the moment, evidence was pointing toward Nicole for plotting against her!

“Soph, why do you look so pale? Is something wrong?” Nicole suddenly asked once they got to the living room.

Sophia froze for a second. She handed her coat to the maid as she said slowly, “I was just thinking about Charles. I have been thinking about this a lot recently but I still can’t think of any reason he would want Mom dead. Nicole, do you think there’s a misunderstanding somewhere?”

She looked at Nicole when she spoke, carefully observing Nicole’s facial expression.

Nicole’s eyes flashed briefly and she quickly averted her eyes.

Sophia’s heart immediately sank. Nicole definitely had something to hide!
