Sophia could not sleep a wink the entire night.
After Sterling headed out to the hospital, she wanted to go back to the room and call Yvette or perhaps Zachary to tell them about the current situation so they could investigate the person behind the bodyguards and take the necessary precautions against whoever was trying to harm Charles.
However, right before she entered her room, the bodyguards took away her phone, as well as requested her to leave her door unlocked in case she tried to escape.
Sophia tossed in her bed until dawn, yet she still felt wide awake. Right then, a bodyguard entered the room and handed her her phone.
“Mr. White is calling.”
Sophia accepted her phone and looked at the time, only to realize that it was already eight in the morning.
“Ms. White, I think you should pick up the phone if you don’t want your brother to get suspicious about anything and get himself involved. Please remember to put it on speaker mode,” the bodyguard said.
The feeling of being monitored and having someone ordering her around even with the little things in life was driving Sophia mad.
However, she had no other choice but to endure!
Sophia frowned as she answered the call on speaker mode. “Ster, what’s the matter?”
“Dad hasn’t woken up yet. The doctor says that he’ll most probably remain in a vegetative state for the rest of his life,” Sterling said in a pained voice.
Sophia was stunned for a moment and she started hearing a loud buzzing sound in her ears.
First, Mom killed herself. Then, Nicole lost an arm, and then, Dad became a vegetable… All this happened just because someone was trying to split her and Charles apart.
If she had never fallen for Charles and pestered him to get together, would things still turn out this way?
“Come by the company now, our lawyer is here to divide Dad’s shares for the two of us. I’ll wait for you at the office,” Sterling continued.
Sophia frowned, but just as she was about to speak, Sterling ended the call.
When she called his number again, nobody answered the phone.
What was Ster up to now?!
“Can you please go out for a moment, I need to get changed.” Sophia threw her phone aside and looked at the bodyguard.
The bodyguard did not move at all.
Sophia tried to control her temper as she gritted her teeth. “What is it? Do you want to look at me as I get changed?”
“I’ll turn around.” With that, the bodyguard turned around, still showing no signs of leaving the room.
Sophia clenched her fists and glared at him for a while. With a sullen expression on her face, she changed under the covers and headed downstairs.
“Ms. White, would you like to have breakfast first or would you rather head straight to the company? I can get someone to buy you breakfast if you want.” The bodyguard followed behind, completely unfazed at Sophia’s stern glare.
Sophia did not turn around as she replied snarkily, “I wouldn’t dare to trouble you with such a simple little task. I’m afraid you’ll kill me before I even realize it.”
“You’re still needed so we won’t kill you.”
“Oh, should I thank you then?” Sophia snorted as she turned into the kitchen.
With so many things on her mind, Sophia had no appetite to eat at all. However, keeping in mind that she was pregnant, she must think about her baby.
Sophia made herself some porridge, and when she was almost finished, Nicole joined her in the kitchen. Her son was holding her left hand whereas her daughter was clutching her empty right sleeve.
Sophia initially did not have much appetite, but after seeing this, she could not even finish the rest of her porridge.
“Why are you just eating porridge? You should eat something more.” There was still a hint of guilt in Nicole’s eyes. Clearly, she still felt remorseful for framing Charles.
