“You shouldn’t talk in your current condition,” Victor interrupted her, “Your injuries are too severe and you were just rescued, I think it’s best if you don’t try to move around on your own now. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee that you can make it through again.”

Simply put, it was a miracle that she was still alive.

Sophia grunted with great difficulty as she felt a burning sensation in her throat.

“Are you thirsty? If talking hurts your throat, maybe try blinking your eyes. Blink once for yes and twice for no.” As a doctor, Victor had seen many patients who suffered terrible injuries.

However, he had never seen anything that shocked him as much as Sophia who had her entire body scorched.

Speaking hurt much worse than blinking her eyes, and so Sophia slowly blinked.

Her lips were dry while her throat was so dry it ached. She was so thirsty that she could feel her organs burning inside her body.

“Wait a minute.” Victor took a cotton swab and dipped it in water before bringing it to her lips.

Although the slight moisture that reached her lips was far from enough, her lips did feel better. However, her throat and stomach still hurt. “I’m… thirsty…”

“You just woke up so you shouldn’t drink too much water.” After hesitating for a slight moment, Victor got up and grabbed a mineral water bottle. Then, he poured some water into the bottlecap before bringing it to Sophia.

Sophia gulped down the bottlecap full of water eagerly. She felt as if every cell in her body that was already dried up instantly soaked in all of it.

However, the refreshing feeling was fleeting, because as soon as she finished the sip of water, all she was left with was the thirst for more.

Victor allowed her another bottlecap of water and stopped after.

Sophia knew that this was for her own good, so despite how much she craved for more, she did not ask anymore. “Thank you…”

Victor winced as he noticed the longing look in her eyes as well as the look of determination. He merely explained this sense of distress as a doctor’s empathy toward a patient.

To stop himself from feeding her more water, he looked away and averted her gaze as he switched the topic.

“After you ‘died’, Mr. Harris, your brother, and your sister-in-law were extremely upset. Mr. Harris passed out due to excessive emotional stress, probably because he was so sad and affected by the news. My colleague told me that he woke up just now but he still doesn’t look well.”

He… fainted? Sophia opened her mouth slightly as she felt a throbbing pain from her chest, but no words came to mind.

She knew that Charles, Sterling, and Nicole would certainly not tell a single soul if she told them that she was still alive.

However, her only concern was that Sylvia still had eyes on them, and if those people notice a sudden change in their behavior, they might suspect that she was still alive.

If that happened, she would not be able to do a single thing, and worse, they might attempt to murder her once again.

“Ms. Jones has been revealed to be your murderer and Mr. Harris had someone break her limbs before sending her to prison. He even bribed the inmates to give her special care and ensure that she wouldn’t have a chance to kill herself. On top of that, nobody is allowed to visit her either.”

Victor still had no clue as to why Sophia was faking her death, nor was he sure which piece of news would be useful for her, and so he told her everything he knew.

Sophia frowned upon hearing all this. She resisted the pain in her throat as she asked, “Isn’t he worried… that people might cause him trouble?”

She had wanted to explain all the advantages and disadvantages of his doings and make it clear who were the people who might want to cause him trouble. However, she was just too weak to bring herself to do it, and so she could only ask her question as simply as possible.

Victor was unaware of the specifics so naturally, he did not understand who Sophia was referring to, but either way, it did not affect his answer.

“Mr. Harris doesn’t care about anything anymore in the pursuit of avenging your death. When he stood up against Ms. Yates earlier, he said that he was willing to risk all of the Harris family to make everyone who hurt you suffer.”

Sophia was already beyond shocked when Charles gave up his shares of Harris Corporation and threatened Master Harris in the past.
