The love Sophia could ever imagine to receive from a lover was far less than the one percent Charles had for her!

She looked at him and she had a sudden urge to hug him, but she did not have the courage.

Not much time had passed since the car accident. Her face was ruined now, and her body had gone out of shape because of the lack of exercise, in addition to the hormonal drug treatments.

She did not know whether he still wanted her like this…

“Silly girl, what’s going on in that head of yours, hmm?” Charles did not know what she was thinking about, but he could tell that she was worried about something.

He gently pulled her into his arms and planted a kiss on her temple, his usual icy-cold eyes suddenly filled with softness and adoration.

‘Sophia’ got goosebumps all over his body and he could not bring himself to watch the two of them any longer.

If it was him, he would certainly not be able to get all mushy with a woman who was disfigured and out of shape like this. Perhaps that was why he was still single!

“Colonel Harris, if there’s nothing else, I’ll leave now.” ‘Sophia’ rubbed his arms that had goosebumps all over and quickly scurried out of the room.

Sterling, on the other hand, was extremely satisfied with Charles’ behavior. “Charles, I was wrong before, and I’m sorry.”

He cast a quick glance at Sophia and hesitated for a moment before continuing, “However, you can see for yourself Soph’s current state. The scars on her face might fade slightly in time, but they won’t fade completely. Moreover, her physique will only worsen from now on because of the drug treatments.”

Sophia clenched her fists harder and harder with each word. She knew what her brother was about to say, but she could only grit her teeth and let him go on.

Sterling paused again before continuing, “If you regret it now, it’s better for the two of you if you split up. I understand that some men can be quite concerned with a woman’s looks and body, and I believe you can easily find someone else with your status. I also understand if that is what you want, and I won’t say anything about it. After all, you have already done so much for Soph.”

“However, if you choose Soph now, there’s no turning back and you can’t regret your decision. If you do anything to hurt her later on, don’t blame me for turning against you then.”

He thought Charles would at least take a moment to consider his options, but to his surprise, Charles replied without a single hesitation, “No matter what happens to Sophia and how she looks, she will become my wife.”

Yvette could not deny the fact that she was a selfish mother. No matter how much she liked Sophia, she did not think her son needed to bend over backward to keep Sophia.

However, she merely let out a soft sigh when she heard his decision and said nothing.

As a woman herself, she was envious of Sophia to be able to experience a love as such.

Charles’ uncle, on the other hand, could not hold back his word of advice. “Charles, you must think carefully. You have to be responsible to the very end after making this decision.”

The Cox family had served the military from generation to generation, and they heavily emphasized the principle of duty and responsibility.

Besides, their family for generations had arranged marriages, and aside from Yvette, there had never been any divorces.

“My heart beats for her, what’s there to think about?” Charles reached for Sophia’s hand, only to realize that they were slightly cold. He turned to Sterling and asked, “Brother, can you please turn up the heater?”

“Got it.” Although Sterling was a loud and careless person, he was particularly attentive and careful toward anything concerning Nicole and Sophia, so he immediately realized that Sophia must be getting cold.

He grabbed the remote control and turned the temperature higher, and he licked his bottom lip before he turned to Charles with a grateful look in his eyes. “Thank you for everything you have done for Soph, and thank you for not abandoning her after her accident.”

He looked straight into Charles’ eyes and continued, “However, you can rest assured that you won’t be the only one sacrificing yourself and doing all the work. Although my father is in a coma now and our White family isn’t as powerful as before, as long as you say the word, I will do anything to help you.”

He knew he was not much capable of anything, but he was willing to risk his life for the people he loved any time!

The tension in the air immediately thickened.
