"Why do I want him to forgive me? He clearly likes another woman yet continues to watch me as I pursue him like this is some kind of joke. He’s the one who should apologize, no?" Megan frowned and asked.

Sophia fell silent.

"Also, he’s treating me as a backup lover, isn’t he? He should be grateful I didn’t call him a scumbag!" Megan rolled her eyes.

"No." Sophia licked her dry lips. The lipstick felt bitter in her mouth. "If this is a special case whereby you must obtain his forgiveness, what will you do?"

Megan looked straight at her. Her expression changed back and forth unpredictably. She did not speak for a long time.

"It's getting late. I'm going to wash up now." Sophia did not get an answer. Her eyes darkened as she got up to grab her toothbrush cup.

"Can I ask you a question first?" Megan got out of bed and stood in her way. Before she could answer, Megan continued, "If my guess is right, you used to pursue Mr. Harris last time, and because he likes Ms. Jones, you hit Ms. Jones with your car and infuriated Mr. Harris. That’s why you’re..."

Sophia frowned and reached out to push her aside. "Stop making wild guesses. Let me pass."

"If my guess is wrong, then will you care to explain how an ordinary person like you knows people like Mr. Harris, Ms. and Mr. Jones? Moreover, you are often picked on in the club, yet you don’t resist nor change your job… It's not that you refuse to change, but you can't leave, am I right?" Megan was still standing in front of her and would not budge an inch. There was an astonishing glow in her eyes.

Sophia pursed her lips and looked straight at her. "Just treat it as though I didn't ask the question earlier."

She was considered to have admitted tacitly.

"So you’re… really James' daughter? The Whites’ daughter?" Megan swallowed and questioned with much difficulty.

Sophia's eyes darkened. It felt as though she was swallowing a bitter pill. "Not anymore."

The Whites had disowned her.

She pushed the astonished and incredulous-looking Megan aside, then grabbed her toothbrush cup, facial cleanser, and makeup remover into the bathroom.

As she looked at herself when she was brushing her teeth in the mirror, she realized that her eye makeup had smudged without her realizing it. It was a dark patch, making her look like a clown.

She spent half an hour washing up. Sophia opened the bathroom door quietly and realized that Megan had not gone to bed yet and was currently waiting for her at the door.

"I have a few suggestions, Sophia. I don't know if it will work, though." Megan's eyes were sparkling, a little less natural than usual and with a smidge more of cautious ingratiation.

"Don’t tell me if you don’t know whether it will work or not." Sophia set her toothbrush cup and facial cleanser on the table, paused for a moment, and said, "The Whites have cut off all ties with me."

She could not give Megan any material or non-material benefits, so it was useless for the other party to be obsequious toward her.

Megan thought nothing of it and said, "You’re their biological daughter after all. How can they break off all ties with you just like that? Maybe you getting imprisoned had Ja..."

She wanted to say James, but glanced at Sophia and restructured her words again and continued, "Had Mr. White feeling slightly ashamed. When he has untied the knot in his heart, I’m sure he’ll let you go home by then."

Sophia wiped her face with a towel and sat on the bed silently.

Megan's intention could not be any more obvious. She was trying to help her out right now so she would then owe her a favor. Even when she told Megan that it was impossible to mend her relationship with the Whites, Megan would still not believe her.

"Nothing is absolute in this world. How do you know when you haven’t even tried? Maybe you’ll succeed after giving it a try?" Megan walked up to her, put her hands on her knees, and bent over to stare at her.

Sophia's eyelashes trembled a few times. She lifted her eyelids and asked gently, "What’s your suggestion?"

The two discussed a lot of things. The sky was already turning bright when they went to bed. Fortunately, both of them did not need to go to work until three in the afternoon.

"Sophia, the manager wants you at her office. She has something to tell you!" Someone came looking for Sophia as soon as the dormitory door opened.
